The Tech Report has confirmation
that rumors that AMD was planning on dropping the ATI brand from their
products is indeed true. As a result you can expect that the next
generation of Radeon cards will be AMD branded, without any mention of
ATI at all. to like AMD, and they don\'t mind seeing the AMD name on gr

well, when you have 13yo working as PR, why should we act any different
"If you just bought an "ATI Radeon" and are proud of that fact"
what kind of moron is PROUD of buying video card?! Especially if we take "between the lines" content here, namely "proud to have chosen ATI over nVidia".
I can only imagine a 14 y/o standing in the middle of the street with the sapphire radeon box in his hands [USA national anthem playing in the background] and slowly raising the box above his head while shading a joy tear in his left eye, and saying: [wobbly voice]"Mom, I am so proud to be American today!"
...fucktard... |

Well that's funny because one of its largest holding shareholders is the government of UAE- Abu Dhabi.
Anyway I don't care about these tech companies Intel/AMD/Nvidia they all do so well at screwing consumers with artificial market segmentation especially the graphic card companies. Pro workstation cards using consumer GPU's on slightly less crippled gfx boards and proper drivers for production apps. It costs them more in time wasted on separating hardware lineups/drivers and salaries for this stupid mentality, but of course the shareholders find that other businesses will chuck out $1000+ on gfx cards for workstations and so they keep up this bullshit because their are plenty of dumb fucks who will pay for it and while it still works it covers the cost in wasted production of doing this. Innovation and creativity really does take a backseat when in comes to what the corporate greed can get out of it.
So AMD still ain't dropping the FirePro/Radeon lineup, which says it all... business as usual, they could have really scared the green shit out of Nvidia if they decided to work things differently. Nvidia's Quadro line up is a mega stinking rippoff, and AMD gfx cards are only let down by poor drivers that really only focus on games (and even that is still iffy), which could certainly be improved if they did away with having segmented hardware and a more focused driver team, and yet they play at this game Nvidia is so much better at and more established in like its propriety CUDA shit which like Microscums propriety Directx/ Directcompute API's need to fucking die off quickly already, with open source alternatives like OpenGL/CL taking the lead instead, much better for all platforms and thus games/apps and its developers. |

well Koogle, I agree with you, but you just scratched the surface of it all and while you are certainly not missing the basic point of it, you are missing some facts. Unfortunately, we will never have "indie" hardware companies and shareholders have the final word in everything. And where they are going - you can see for yourself, we all can, but saying that if you recently bought your "Ati Radeon" and proud of it - well, that's just retarded and too much IMO.
edit: actually, if you look at today marketing of almost whole world industry - I have a feeling that it is not meant for people that think, at all. Just look at the retarded commercials for products. TV Shop starts to look more serious than most of companies commercials today. I mean srsly, cilit bang?! Guillette? I stopped buying guillette products after they introduced 3-blade/way crap. I was hopeing for a direct jump to something awesome like a complete 26-blade face pull shave, but I guess I will have to wait 3 more years just for 4-blade design XD
edit1: btw Those Sheiks bought (khm, invested) AMD last year. If not for them, AMD would probably be a lot behind of where it is today (in terms of quantities of junk it produces and dumps to retailers). Let's just hope we don't get sand in our cards, that could be nasty (since they are making some new FABS in Abu-Dhabi or wherever, I don't care) |

sure, could thank them at least for keeping AMD funded putting up competition with Intel, the performance/price crown seems to change hands quite a bit depending on the price of going with either platform. Would certainly be worse if it was just Intel around though.
