Movie "300" someone said .... this is madness.. 1536 MB GFX card costing the same as an average pc $499 ? Sometimes the temerity of these research and development teams never ceases to amaze me. They fail to recognise the global depression, maybe Obama's new healthcare reform will enable people to trade in a kidney or testicle in order to obtain these superfluous devices.
Btw off topic i'd like to say congratulations to the citizens of the U.S in adopting our biased NHS system, waiting lists you'll love em ...... good luck. |

Ya prices are complete BS. Small innovation at high cost. Imagine how much they would make if they just outright cut cards to a cost of $250 for top of the line, 200 for one below etc etc. It's fucking stupid that a graphics card cost more than a whole PC. Totally agree.
My card is still doing well, I bought it for a fraction of the original cost(brand new) and I see no real need for a new card, based on games coming out and the fucking stupid pricing. The day I spend 500 sammolians on a video card is the day I check myself in. And right now, there's a lineup and Stumpus and Koogle are last in line. So I'll pass! Hahaha! |

$500 for a top of the line launch card is cheap compared past card launches. As with any new product, and this is no secret...wait for it...the price comes down over time as economies of scale take hold.
I have to agree that while new tech is always interesting to me, I can't think of any good use for a new GTX. There is no games that demand it's power that interest me, and I don't think there will be for quite a while the way things are looking. The way it shall gobble power when idling is also of great distress to me. I would like to see some more earnest innovation in making these things more power efficient like the new intel chips (Core i series).
I will just use it's arrival to score myself a cheap 200 series second hand if I even bother with that. I've had this 8800GT for over two years now and I am still playing things happily at 1920x1200. |
