A posts to the 2K Forums (thanks BluesNews) by community manager 2K Elizabeth follow up on conflicting information about BioShock 2 activation limits:
As many of you are aware, yesterday Steam\'s pre-purchase program began and the specs for BioShock 2 were posted along with that announcement.
These specs were taken

| What a shame, I am not buying anything that limits me. I don't care if it's 15 times either. It should have ZERO other than a online activation with a valid and not-currently-in-use serial. I was never too into this bs and the mp behind BS2 so it's no big deal I won't get it. |

On the one hand I agree, I don't like any kind of limitations like this.
But then I actually took a sip of coffee and my brain started working.
I can name ONE game ever that I *might* have installed 15 times in my entire life of gaming (all the way back to C64 games). That game would be Thief 2 (possibly Thief 1 but I doubt I) because it's been put on every PC I've ever owned every time I've reformatted. Other than that one game I can't think of more than a handful I've reinstalled more than 5 times, and zero that I've installed more than 10 times. So 15 activations is a completely irrelevant number, especially since you know they will do exactly what they did with the first BioShock that had only THREE activations...they will release a patch 6-9 months later that removes the "limitation" at all and gives unlimited installs.
Not buying the game for this reason is completely absurd. But you are entitled to your opinion so go for it. |

I don't need coffee to get my brain working, fella.
I re-install my PC doing lots of things. I refuse to have to un-install a game before I re-init my system. Last game I got that had that crap protection was Farcry 2 and I had to wait 2 weeks for the morons to re-init my license. C&C, and shocker shocker! Bioshock, installed it a number of times but because I was busy testing OS's and applications and required to re-init my box I never uninstalled them. Their so called improved activation code still required that I wait days before they answered my email. Just under a week later I could play. For example, as a official tester for various Linux distro's, Vista and Window 7, yeah.. frequently re-installing is part of it all. I'm not some yahoo who just uses my PC for games.
So Ya. I refuse to buy any title with limitations. It's very inconvenient and in my case, 15, could easily get exhausted. Don't care if you want to argue further, do it with Koogle or Stumpus, they love flapping their lips. |
