From now through the holiday season, you’ll see and hear about all th

If it only could play your subtitles with your media, or have a decent wireless receiver, unfortunatelly it doesn't.
I've got a $29,9 DVD player that is far more powerful than that. |

Ozieo, I don't know what you are talking about except for maybe watching pirated movies because with normal media subtitles work fine. There have been a few solutions for this since like firmware 2.20 or so. There are loads of pages for help but I gave this to someone a while back on the matter http://www.divxland.org/permanentsubtitling.php and it fixed their problem. Just with a few seconds on google I also found this which comes highly recommended. http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php. I don't use subtitles so I couldn't care less about it really.
PS3 comes with a wireless connection, you don't have to pay $100 for a wireless adapter like Xbox. Additionally, the wireless adapter is wireless G in PS3 and so for anyone streaming serious stuff you'd want to go wired anyhow.
(update) I wanted to clarify a mistake I made here. What I meant was that the wireless on PS3 is only G(as is for Xbox360) and for anyone streaming high quality you'd want wired(Xbox has this). Wireless which most everyone would use is extremely convenient and decent for streaming regular movies and music. Up and until a month ago I was perfectly fine with the included wireless adapter with my PS3 (something you have to dish out for on Xbox.) Now for fun I am streaming converted blu-rays from my PC thus a wired connection. |

.AVI is history, which is mostly used by pirates nowadays, any serious encoder uses AVC, which can have either a .mkv or a .mp4 container.
And since Sony shouts out loud it supports MP4, It doesn't, since embedded subtitles (no cheating using permanent subs) must be supported before calling yourself .MP4 compliant.
Sony is lying, it only supports MP4 partially, and as an encoder you have not much freedom because PS3 only plays low profiled AVC, and doesn't support .MP4 subs. |

| Ozieo, I use PS3Media Server. I have no problems with ANY format streaming to my PS3. Don't know why you are hell bent on dissing PS3 but I think you need to get informed. Cheatin or not, subtitles can be done and I'm not going to needlessly argue with you because you 'are' clearly out of touch. |

@Stangestsensation,
Lets not go further into the cheating discussion, streaming (letting your computer do the dirty work) is not what compatibility is about, it's about being able to do-it-yourself, which the PS3 obviously doesn't. |

Ok, for me
1. I don't care about subtitles. 99% of other people likely don't care about it even if there is the odd thread here and there of people complaining about it.
2. I stream all media types to my PS3 and like every other piece of software on the PC it streams in the required format to the PS3. PS3Media Server being, imo, the best there is. Taking into account, TVersity and MediaPlayer sharing. I don't personally care if PS3Media server does it or the PS3 does it. The fact it works perfectly is all I care about in the end.
3. If I did by chance have to put subtitles on, I'm not a person in a rush so it's not a big deal to do one of the very easy things to put subtitles on.
PS3 is an awesome media server and imo, leaps and bounds beyond everything else out there including those little BS boxes they claim are media servers. |

Such strong arguments....
what about mine?
1. I don't care to play games using that nasty controller that makes my thumbs hurt.
2. I don't care about BR movies since regular h.264 1080p movies look excellent.
3. I can buy Chinese box for 50$ or less that does everything else.
4. I don't even have to do what I wrote in 3. I have a PC/Mac. Hell, if you like a gamepad you can attach it to PC. I hear logitech rumbble pad wireless is cheaper and better than sony's controler (probably open for a lot of discussion)
So for me PS3 is useless. (as is xbox, pee, and all other consoles) |

hahaha,
Your guys arguments crack me up sometimes.
If you hate PS3 and don't own one or any console, why comment on this? You're input in that regard is meaningless with experience to back it up. Also why list off imaginary devices that are "like 10x better" without providing links... This is 2009, you can provide proof for your arguments pretty easily... we aren't going to take you at your word nor look for this panacea you speak of.
If you can't appreciate Bluray (don't talk about price, buy 50% off at amazon), or the latest games (killzone2, mlb09, etc.), or streaming media from any computer on your network (even a friends!), then I feel sorry for you, because you are truly missing out on some cool stuff. I've been waiting my whole life for a device like this, and instead of paying $500+ for a graphics card again, I figured a $600 device was worth serious consideration, and I haven't been disappointed. Now it's half that price and people still have all the hate? wasn't that your main bitching point before?
If it's just some poisoned taste left in your mouth about Sony, what's the big deal? yeah they can be shady in their other businesses like anybody else, but the PS3 doesn't fall into that kind of category... the amount of work they've put into the firmware since launch is astounding. They even added divx support which has been pirate central for a loooong time. Pretty much the only gripe I have about the entire experience is cross-game chatting, but aren't there a million other options for that? such as oh talking on the phone?
Anyways, I'm hoping this price cut and newer SKU add some fresh blood to the mix, need some more noobs to feast on in MP...
Happy gaming and movie watching my friends. |

I own a PS3, and I was stupid enough to buy same (on the PC) great games for it in the first week, but Oh Boy, they did look like crap, and FPS you can't control them with that lame controller, If you have a pc, you have to be mentally ill to ever buy a game for your PS3, since a mouse&keyboard combo is so much more comfortable compared to that crap controller, with a mouse it's just aim & Bang!, with that controller it's frustration and nothing else.
Once again, as a media viewer the PS3 is nice (although for such a powerful box is still sucks pretty badly for what it actually does), and for a gaming console, well, an equally priced PC does thousand times better. |

| Hahahhaha you are so funny man! You obviously have a inferior screen! I've got a 60" 1080p LCD with 7.1 THX & TrueHD audio. The PS3 is bloody fantastic in almost everything it does. I split my time between PC and PS3 myself but at times I have to admit my PS3 features and games are what hooks me the most these days. |

Well, even if you got a 300" TV, that wouldn't change the subject. You still have to rely on your (cheap) CPU in your computer for the PS3 to take and show the good things your computer has done.
The PS3 doesn't even know what Anti-Aliasing is, come on, do you call that a next-gen console ????????
And still, I wouldn't swap my PS3 with anything else, because it can properly play DVD's and even Blu-Ray's !! Hooray !!!! |
