Gamesindustry.biz has conducted an interview with Microsoft VP Chris Lewis who says their upcoming OS refresh Windows 7 will actually be a boon for PC games:

Q: PC gaming is still pretty popular for certain genres, so how do you feel that the Games For Windows campaign has progressed - is there more development

Q: Are you aware of any changes in the next Windows platform that are specifically aimed at the gaming community?

Chris Lewis: Windows 7 will be great for games, undoubtedly. It's all good news - it's even more robust, it's quicker relatively, and the early testing cycles are proving very promising overall. I think it'll be nothing but good news for PC gamers, but we'll have more to say on that later on this year.

Yeah Vista was 'great for games' also, wasn't it? Great for killing it off!
XP was the BEST gaming platform- and still is, if not, why on earth are dev's still producing games for it? (Empire Total War for eg) It's because folks still have XP and Vista has been superceded already.
M$ are very deluded and can't get it throught their thick heads that consoles sell MILLIONS of games and hardware because change isn't forced down the console gamers throats.
Unlike the PC whereby the -perfectly good OS/hardware- is binned by M$/et al and your told 'upgrade' or be left behind. 300buck graphics card worth not even a third of that in just over a years time.
Dream on M$

I use Windows 7 and I am gaming on it all the time, including FEAR 2. I also used Vista and sadly owned the Home Premium. Never ran with it though, it's been de-installed almost 2 weeks since I stupidly bought it. Windows 7 is not Vista (yeah I know) but then all my games, XP or whatever all work perfectly on Windows 7. I keep seeing performance this and that about FEAR 2. I installed it, run it at the max of my monitor with max settings. I have yet to see even a stutter. I run games from early 90's on my Windows 7. No problems. Bioshock works perfectly too. I do not have a killer PC but you'd never know it from how well the games run.

People can dump on Vista, sure it sucked, but Windows 7 despite what you hear is NOT Vista. They made core changes, they have improved stability and performance. You would only know that if you actually ran it though. I easily see Windows 7 taking over from XP. Without a doubt.

Reading through your post this makes absolutely no sense.

Microsoft has the Xbox 360, I am pretty sure they are more than aware of what sales of console vs PC is... Confused Windows is not just for gamers it's for Business, it's for enthusiasts and gamers.

sorry strangest, but i have heard soooo much bull from Gates over the past 15years that i wouldn't trust them again. They actively screw up gaming in all shapes and forms -yes they are a monopoly- it's not good for consoles and it's not good for PCs. There is NO level playing field, just because they have money means ZILCH. It doesn't mean better games just stiffles freedom of choice. When i play i like a 'menu', not if you want DLC you MUST buy an XBox, or PC. That's not choice, it's commuinistic! Hell why doesn't the whole world just get up at the same time, work, eat and shit and play a M$ product That's how gate's would have it. Like SKY in Europe; Want HD sport, want HD films....well it's ONLY on SKY. Great choice eh? No wonder there's greedy bastards in the world.
