The recently announced downloadable content for
Left 4 Dead will be free on both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Valve has just sent out this press release that should clear up any confusion:

The recently announced Left 4 Dead Downloadable Content (L4D DLC) will be delivered to Xbox 360 and PC gamers
