In my experience this is a temperamental issue. My 9th Gen series motherboard craps out if I have 10 active devices plugged in, especially when I load an intensive game. It'll start randomly losing power to one of the devices and make the USB disconnect sound. Doesn't matter if I use a PCI-E USB expansion card or one plugged into my existing mobo ports.

I've been using this for years and it works great. The HUB uses an external power supply, so there is no problem.
