| It's about damn time. Everyone talks a lot about standardization, and then capitalism kicks in and companies like Apple come up with their own proprietary crap that they can get licensing fees on, and to hell with what's good for the consumer. |

There’s no such thing as “standard”. If standard was standard - in your eyes- every mobile would take the same battery, charger and be the same cost. That’s ‘standard’. Same for cars. In the 70s to the 90s i could work on just about any make of car with my pile of tools. Then along came greed. Every car had its own factory tools, that was too expensive to buy for the layman. Then they put blanking plugs on carburettors to stop you working on them, if you broke the seal then the car couldn’t be taken abroad or out of its own country. Then they brought in ECUs that only dealerships with technicians and laptops could work on. Some cars you took a flat battery out of it and it needed reset by sad laptop. Absolute bull.
You can’t work on cars, TVs which is why we have a “throw away” culture. It costs too much to repair which is why landfill is out of control. Shops, spare parts and trades are all gone because of *greed*. Your generation grows up thick as hell, because you can’t change the fuse or wire a plug or even wallpaper a house. You certainly can’t work on cars or repair things.
You talk about ‘standardisation’. Haven’t a clue
