The WiiUDaily.com web site claims to have received the hardware info for the console from a game developer who is in the process of porting a current PS3 game to the Wii U. The source claims that the processor inside the Wii U is a 3 GHz PowerPC-based 45nm CPU with four processor cores. By contrast, the current Xbox 36

I'm intrigued by these specs. It's no problem to OC a phenom let alone an intel iseries these days to over 4Ghz. You don't even need watercooling. I mean I can literally buy an eighty dollar cpu like a phenom dual core unlock extra cores then oc the hell our of it over 1Ghz is most cases.

Will the Powerpc based hardware remain viable in a couple years? Apple didn't seem to think it was worth using anymore. I'm sure keeping the price the same and getting cheaper hardware that runs about as well was a big selling point for profit minded execs. Why quad core? Why not eight? Don't get me wrong I know they are mostly looking for something more mindful of power consumption let alone heat wise in a cramp cable box size or htpc type of case. The ram is the other concern as it looks rather anemic. I can pick up 8gb of ram for thirty bucks (2x4gb) no problem. VRam wise 1Gb seems to be an almost absolute minimum and some future proofing possibly.

Oh well guess we wait and see what happens. I'm thinking the escapist is going to be right here that we have to put up with some turds from Nintendo before it becomes good again.

If it supports 1080p graphics and the games are actually made in proper 1080p and not upscaled like most PS3 and 360 titles then Nintendo probably think that's enough as most people only have 1080p TV's. This will definitely be my next console purchase if what I have read about Skyward Sword is true (getting it for Xmas, missus won't let me have it early) and they finally have made the controller worth using and not just a gimmick. Also Nintendo like to keep their consoles reasonably priced and I think the Wii was the first in a while that actually made money, many of there's were sold at a loss with money being made on the games Nintendo produce.

It's not so much about raw processing power (CPU) than about HD graphics (GPU).
Without a graphics card, the processor is worthless when it comes to graphics-intensive games (nowadays, most of them are, especially when one would expect 1080p output).
Intel is desperately trying to change the CPU vs GPU game (which would help them to to regain their long lost position). They have some interesting solutions, but this is not going to change overnight - consequently, the next gen of consoles will have to rely on a dedicated graphics card/chip.
