The chaps over at TechSpot have published their Deus Ex: Human Revolution GPU & CPU Performance Test. Here\'s a taster:

We were pleasantly surprised by how well Deus Ex: Human Revolution ran on affordable graphics cards at 1680x1050. The GeForce GTX 550 Ti and Radeon HD 6770 were able to deliver playable perform

so to sum it up, they were actually surprised that game runs fine on ~800$ "affordable" quad-core PCs? What a bunch of useless morons. Game is an obvious port-disaster infected with bugs and glitches, runs so-so (leaning towards poor performance) and graphics are average at best, BUT it needs quad core and pretty hi end GPU to do worse job then crysis1/2 does with ~500$ PC.

so instead of investing ~300$ in PC upgrade, why exactly wouldn't I grab second-hand xbox360 and save me some ~100$ or so?

I downgraded from 5850 to gtx260 because of shoddy game coding and console ports that actually barely benefited from 5850 over gtx260 and I don't intend to upgrade to a new GPU until something like 550Ti is ~100$ or less.

Great game, no crashes here so far. Big game too. Haven't had a bit of video chop/lag at all. Consolized? My ass. This is no consolized game. I should have played hardest skill level rather than medium. I find I can take out most baddies stealthly. Hacking is very cool too. Overall a fantastic game, I give it an easy 9.5/10. Be a perfect 10 if the manual wasn't such garbage. I think half you guys play with complete shit systems.

You can play ANY shit on a PC with a Gamepad. Does that make it a port? Course it doesn't. It's all in the mind..less assumption.
Besides, ports go away back to the early 90's late 80's. when a game version was released on ONE format only, then ported over to another ie; PC to console or console to PC. That required a reworking of code etc.

Nowadays, games are made at the same time (on all foramts) and require NO porting whatsoever. It's down to the developer how they work the code for PC and each console etc, but using the term 'port' is actualy an annal attempt to pass the buck to console rather than a LAZY assed programmer and/or a $HIT PC config.
Hence, why there's ALWAYS someone that will blame software but not their machine. Yet if a game comes out on console in 3D for eg, that game will ALWAYS perform on everyones machine the same way, BUT if they have a $HIT 3D tv setup, then they WONT see it like everyone elses 3D.
Same goes for PC.

Actually, when I say port I refer to overlaying layer(s) of code on top of the original console code to translate that to other platforms other then original one. Be it PC or xbox or whatever. There are many examples of that but I won't go into details, let's just say there are ports that are done better (unreal 3 engine ones usually) then others and so on.

my point was, if my hardware is crappy - how come it can run a far better looking game with no problems and it can't run some deus ex that by comparison looks worse, has less of everything etc? I already gave an example: Crysis warhead, Crysis 2, I can run both on almost everything on extreme settings and have 30+ fps, yet, Deus ex requires quad core and ti550 to run similar fps and look far worse (far from ugly but worse).

I don't care who is to blame but I know it is not my PC because if something is coded properly my PC will run it just fine. I can give you a tons of examples of games that run just fine. Most of them are written on PC for PC and THEN ported over to xbox/ps3. If it is other way around, then problems with performance may occur and I am not into buying better hardware so someones mistakes would not show up.

I dig the game and it even runs fine on one of the older comps for the kids with a gtx465.

The whole console port thing is also about how the game is designed overall. Console games are fairly dumb UI and gameplay wise. Graphics are another area where they might at best tack on some extra features namely shadowing of some sort that the PC can do much better. If you compared the game created for all platforms the same game made for the PC exclusively you would have a superior product in at the very least graphics and UI by a larger margin.
