Why are they releasing a patch for download for a game not even released?

Two Worlds 2 is released in Europe. It's just the publisher for NA, UK & Australia decided to delay their release till January 4th (probably didn't want to compete with Fallout New Vegas, Arcania & the redo/update of Divinity 2).

Some people (in the US) have had luck ordering through amazon.de but it told me it couldn't be shipped to my address...plenty of other crap to play till January anyway.
