The chaps over at TechSpot take a look at Mafia II
GPU & CPU Performance. Here\'s a taster: GeForce GTX 480 is more than capable of playing
this game in all of its glory at resolutions as high as
2560x1600 with PhysX enabled, so it is not the $500+ graphics cards we
are concerned with. Even the more aff

WTF ?
So what ? I have to spend 500+ (for example) to enjoy the extra decals ?
Wtf... bullshit!
I played this game with my 3year old machine, my motherboard is maybe 4 ?! (im not sure, but it doesnt have USB 2 Laughing , its 1.1) and iт ran perfectly smooth with my GF8800gt and 4 gigs ram... Smile
I didnt played in max visual quality, but its not a waste since i only turned off the Ambient occlusion and set shadows to medium plus AA to 4... So, big deal, ffs Laughing
Wonderful game! Awesome movie experience i must say! Smile
Fuck it, im not upgrading yet Very Happy Just dont see the point///

nah, 9600gso should be enough and you can pick up used one for less than 50$ (if you really want to have physX in mafia, which I think you shouldn't want to because it sucks unlike in mirror's edge for example)

Well I played with Physx turned off, but only because it said I needed to restart the game.. fuck that Very Happy That video is all I need to see of its Physx potential.. and honestly while I was playing I really didn't notice the lack of Physx, certainly wasn't like they had any water simulations/flooding/rain/boats etc even the fire/particles were just fine, although I probably would have noticed something wrong if I didn't get my ragdoll bodies.

Anyway it seems like a much better 'engine' than GTAIV, (its not a better game than GTAIV though) certainly appears as detailed but not in overal map size, and yet I can run Mafia2 at 1920x1200 with details/quality up and no texture LOD popping... just a shame the actual game didn't live upto really excelling past its original, sure the graphics are better.. but gameplay in comparison to GTAIV.. hmm

Other things that pissed me off, changing radio stations key was one key [,] ? wtf that is miles away from WASD.. did they not hear of a fucking Mousewheel? did they just think, well GTA used the mousewheel by default for changing stations, we better not do that? stupid

So much of the Mafia2 map seemed unexplored after the end of the game, its like wtf they built all this and yet hardly much of it was really utilized in missions. Actually wasn't really enough missions when you take into the slower cars and driving back to homebase. Even going to the shops were pointless, and the only time I had to make money was for 1 mission. Its best mission to me was that window bomb, really got to see the city view. Its worst mission(s) were those at the prison, really felt like paying a visit those coptards and laying waste to the lot of them after passing those missions.

I agree with a lot of what most reviewers have said about the game and those with constructive criticism on the game at 2k forums. Its a great experience but it could have been so much better. They could have done with an Airport (their was one in the original Mafia) could have had some old planes to steal and fly around the city and expanded on things that weren't possible in the original... but no don't that. The original mafia game and things I remember about that game that I haven't played for years are still more memorable than this Mafia2 game I've just played. Its like such a wasted opportunity my only guess is they are going to do the whole DLC pack thing. Which tbh it does deserve, especially with that ending storyline.

It's hard not to compare Mafia2 and GTAIV, but out of the two GTAIV is still way better overal(except engine that doesn't even support anti-aliasing), lets see how many DLC packs it gets.

Well, Koogle.
The reviews that i read before i got Mafia 2 were disappointing and i was thinking not playing this game.
But the problem is that everyone is comparing this game to GTA... which i find i pointless.
Yes, there is a lot more potential to Mafia 2, that big city and stuff but as i get it, and enjoyed this game, its of the movie experience.
This is linear storyline gameplay and personally i didint find the need to go killing people with my car around the city or doing combo jumps .... just for fun Wink

This is totally different game experience from GTA.
Yes to compare both games is logical but i dont think there is point doing so Smile

Btw, in the game progress after you finish it says 70%, which makes me think that there are some DLC coming soon Cool So, the story was untold and the movie is to be continued... Wink

Its an big city world, its hard not to compare it to other sandbox-ish games where you can free roam. Hey I did like the original Mafia for what is was, but they really haven't done the game the justice it deserves.. it needs more content, and more ways of utilizing the content that is already in the game.

Should be game modes like barricading yourself in from cops until they're all dead or they get you, bank jobs etc... its a wasted lifeless city right now.

And reasons to want to rob money etc hardly anything to spend it on, not even buying cars, villas etc
