This Monday, July 19, Steam will be releasing Alien
Swarm for the low, low price of free. Two years ago, Valve
hired a group of modders behind the popular Unreal Tournament 2004
co-op mod called Alien Swarm. The team has since contributed to popular
games such as the Left 4 Dead Series and Portal 2, but on the side

| It's a good way to attract more people to their service - I guess a bunch of people will sign up to get this - and Steam will list those as "customers"; cheating their stats and give false image to their competitors. |

The other services are free to give me free games any time they want!
Free weekends playing games I don't own would be good too.
Damn Steam, how dare they do nice things for you and me! |

It was a mod that was made for free in the first place.. wow how amazing steam I must install you!
durr noob consumers... It seems somewhat amazing that just because steam makes a big thing about really not a lot, everyone should be really pro steam and totally forget about how utterly shit it can be. Its like they forgot that many games/mods used to come out for free before steam was ever around.
I'll do anything for you steam, even let you scan my hardware and SOFTWARE!, and you can use the information to do whatever you want. |

You would not believe how much those reliable statistics worth to large corporations... You need to think big... Google does the same, and they collect even more info about you - making a lot more money, from which you do not see a pence. |

| I try to not think about all the information Google collects. Chrome to Gmail all those apps and just plain searches. It would make us cringe and perhaps a little angry. |

Do you know what is worse than paranoia? Ignorance!

Surprisingly an awful lot when its accumulated from a massive audience all directly linked to bank accounts ip addresses etc.. benefits marketing, sales and really just how far they'll be wanting to go to make things more appealing to you and to sell you out (I mean your information).... So information is valuable, especially to those with nefarious intentions.
$$$$$$$
Valve: "hey Adobe we recently found out a large percentage of our dumb fuck audience has copies of your programs installed, even though you're a bunch of fucking rip off merchants who have been selling the same barely improved shit year after year, and if it wasn't for piracy you wouldn't even have the market share or dominance anyway or any of the other hypocritical bullshit you forget because it suits your agenda"
Adobe: " , o'Really"
Valve: " You want the details? "
Adobe: "Sure, how much...we love law suits and using the Police State BSA scumbags to raid homes and businesses and put the fear in the general noob consumer so they can be fleeced more easily."

So, can you really prove that Steam scans you PC and sends info to Valve ?
I dont think so...
And my question was about the hardware, not the software
And, tell me - really, what is the problem with you if big companies make money from such an info ?! What ? You are angry because you dont get money ? How does this affect you personally ?
And if you dont want to get an FBI raid to your home, then buy the stuff you use! Whats the problem ?
p.s. i dont want you to think that i bought everything on my pc No way Hose! heh... |

yeah you're asked if you want to do a survey, its not mandatory however many do it anyway, and who really knows if it just does want it wants in the background anyway, its certainly fee-sable though the backlash they would get it caught would be just.

jeeesh you don't get it do you, nothing at all wrong with large corporations just abusing their market position at all and selling your info. Clearly noob consumer doesn't at all mind. Though I'm sure if some little guy asked if you could just install something for them so that it could check what hardware/software you have installed you'd be very obliged to provide them with that info LOL. NOT.. yet Valve just somehow seem much more friendly and not all intrusive, its just a survey afteral And besides you can skip these advertisement we bombard you with and get to eventually playing a game you bought later after you've gone through the steaming shit client.
You seem to be under the illusion Valve is giving away a lot, NO you are the idiots have a lost a lot and given away a lot more because of the support fanbase you provide that has allowed such changes in the gaming industry to sucker you with.

Them scumbags will raid anything and lawfully steal equipment given half the chance and bit of loose evidence of corporate finger pointing all completely made legal because of illegal and inept laws brought in and sponsored by one sided organizations wanting to keep their little system racket going all allowed because societies general ignorance in complacently supporting such corruption.
oh well just blame dumb ass society, eventually they will realize they got suckered big time. |

Very cool about Alien Swarm, I'm going to load that on all my pc's here. Happy as heck to get it for free too! I love Steam, to me it's the only thing keeping me on my PC these days. Great deals provided without the fluff. Quick downloads and always there to install whenever. I'll wait for MOH to go on sale. |

I can't even be bothered to load and update steam to try it out, maybe some other time, its 'freeness' is only being use to attract people to use steam anyway. And while Alien Swarm has changed to source engine, from the Alien Breed mod on ukt2k4, I still play ut2k4 matches without having to go through that steaming shit client. Infact all the games I play more regularly nowadays aren't on that junk. And yet I do have quite a few games on steam, tf2 being the only one I'd be vaguely interested in playing online these days.

Zero physical value
Zero resale value
That must be the fluff you didn't want?
"Great deals", Better rephrased as some good deals, considering those good deals are just more realistically priced for what you get instead of being over valued on release. Where also bundling lots of old titles that most would very unlikely buy to play separately anyway, but does boost your steam game collection count so I can see why it does appeal to those who want to tie in all games to a single account. That way if you want to let any friends borrow a game you don't play you'll have to let them have your entire account so you can't use it, silly consumers haven't realized what advantages they've lost yet.
Quick downloads? pfff not that I really care for preloads, but for mandatory game updates. usually sucks

Ya but then again, all you do is fucking whine and complain. So who gives a shit? I like Steam as do tons of other people it's a fantastic delivery system and I have never had a problem with it. Get a better PC and maybe you'll feel a little better. TF2 is a fucking bore and I barely play it. Not into the kiddy cartoony shit, it got old fast. |
