NVIDIA and AMD announced new GTX 275 and HD 4890 accelerators.
There are articles comparing the two new products on Legit Reviews, PC Games Hardware, TechAge:

Well before I received either of these two cards, I had expected the
match-up to be quite even, similar to the match-up we saw this past

Wonder if the day is closer for AMD and ATI closing it's doors. ATI was dead 2 years ago imo. Bad decision by AMD to pull them in. Nvidia has always been the superior card and when they soaked up 3Dfx it was only a matter of time for ATI.

LOL!

From what i see ATI is giving Nvidia the hardest time ever. Phenom II kicks ass and is super cheap. So why the hell are you wondering when AMD and ATI will close their doors? Hahahah the 4870X2 kicked Nvidia's ass for good and they will remember it for a long time.

Just a warning Nvidia is still going for a huge monolithic gpu for the GT300 while ATI will go for smaller ones for the rv870! Guess what! Nvidia is going to get it once more. Oh and don't forget rv770 and rv790 are still about half the size of what the GT200 is and still manages to kick it's butt, so do the math....!

Cheers!

Strange, i bought an ATI 4850 512mb and it kicks the arse off anything from nvidia in the same dept as it -and price.
Have a look at the Rakes of nvidia problems on the Empire Total War forums?
Out of all the graphics cards i have had from the past 15years -from Matrox Mystique 2mb 3dfx,Diamond monster, voodoo1/2 and 3, GeForce TI4600, GeForce 7800GT, etc to my present ATI 4850. The ATI Radeon 9800 pro and the 4850 have blown all of my nVidia cards away for bang for buck!
As with all graphics cards, waiting until you buy them as cheap as you can is TRUE value. Buying a 3-400 buck card means absolute jack $hit performance terms if you get it one third that price and it still plays as a 300 buck card Laughing

FYI, the new card only uses 60 watts when idle.

Yep, 4850 kicks ass! Plus it's pretty cheap to manufacture for AMD-ATI, so good for them, they make more bucks from each chip.

And 9800pro was an amazing card too. My comp felt like a NASA supercomputer when I had it installed first =)

Really liked my Ti4200 and 7600gt also though.

I don't get this fanboism. Each company wouldn't have been what they are today without each other. They motivate each other, make themselves better because of competition. They both screw up from time to time, recover, chase their opponent, beat him... and it will go on and on.

Sorry didn't know this would be a hot topic.

To psolord -> How about stock prices and the fact AMD overall is at $3 while Nvidia is at $11 additionally the Intel Core 2 Quad is on par with the better Phenom 2. In speed tests, Intel beats AMD. For the money Intel is better. Nvidia also has 100x better support than AMD and ATI put together. Simple research. Smile

To Stumpus -> Eww ATI? I have a 9800GTX+ and in the reviews I've read your card is about on par with mine but mine continues to beat yours and that's only with 5 mins of looking. I paid $200 for my card and I haven't had a single problem ever with it. Drivers are never an issue either as I got a million to choose from.

Power/voltage means jack to me. Sorry, not an environmentalist. Wink

But i only paid 149 for my 4850, therefore 'bang for buck' stands Wink
I also, personaly, think that ATI has better AA and AF. (and always had)
I'm no fan boy, i've bought all makes of graphic cards and therefore judge my opinion on bang for buck performance (value for money)

Drivers???? Like that's always been nvidia's problem! Go forwards, nope roll back just to get a game to work. As i have said, the Empire Total War forum is chock a block with nvidia graphic and driver problems -and that was less than 5 seconds after visiting the page (never mind 5mins) Never had a single problem with ATI drivers, Oh boy but nVidia nv4display.dll errors... i recite them off by heart. Also uninstalling drivers -and the garbage that nvidia drivers leave behind on your system is pathetic and always has been.
ATI (i'm pleased to see) has a nice 'clean' GUI with a better profile system than nvidia.

Your card is close to mine Stumpus. It's like a seasaw in comparison. I bought my card nearly a year ago for just under $200 and it's been worth every penny. I've never had any performance issues with it or game issues or BSOD (lol) either. I also research drivers before I jump the gun to install them. As for AA and AF. I play with AF to maximum and AA I usually turn off. I run 2048x1152 or something in all my games. AA doesn't really factor in at that rez. My wife has had ATI for her last couple of cards but she's jumping ship. She doesn't like their bloated and buggy drivers, lots of options missing and overall she finds driver quality very low with ATI. She's even written ATI/AMD on several occasions and never got anything back. I've never been in a situation I ever had to do that. A few fixes she waited for took nearly 6 months! She still has about half a dozen games she can't play without problems. I laugh because I have never had a single problem with mine. Reason she wants to switch to Nvidia.

Ah, strangest. That's why there is a choice eh? What some people see as rubbish others see as wonderful. The nature of the human being.
Perfect example; your resolution you play at.
Obviously i can see why AA/AF doesn't factor in your opinion. Likewise i play on a 46" 1080p and a 32" 1080p (living room and bedroom -yeah, i'm spoilt Razz ) i'm not as crazy about resolution, but like detail and smooth gameplay. (so i would have higher AA/AF over resolution) Play something like Empire Total War in all it's glory and it's bringing 2,000 buck rigs to their knees! (especialy sea battles) Something that i've always hated about the PC is that it is never consistent in the fps dept. It can fluctuate to three figures and drop to two due to either CPU or GPU overheads or just poor coding/optimisation.
Something like MotorStorm 2 or GRID on PS3 is just AMAZING in it's fluidity re frame rate.
Gameplay being the operative word over bells and whistles i suppose.
