this all sounds good, but i doubt we'll see it in efeect anytime soon. especially the parts that has to do with copy protection.

Copy protection is a must in this industry. The amount of piracy is simply astounding, and what is more astounding is the audacity most pirates have.
I used to copy and download many of my games, oh yes.
But the damage these things cause the industry is just incalculable.
Devs are cutting into the flesh in order to make games cost effective and break even.
And yet, people moan about high costs and anti piracy technology, justifying the piracy with these reasons.
Thus good companies file for bankruptcy (Titan quest anyone ?)

Even though its expensive, even though some games are not that good, i have simply decided, without any qualms, to buy ALL my games.
even games i used to have pirated I make a point to buy.
why?
because
1) people worked on these games, hard.
2) its a luxury. Not food or shelter. If you dont have money for it, dont buy it.
3) I want to stop lying to myself about freedom of speech and other stupid logical reasons.

There, my anti piracy rant is over.

Now adding something meaningful: I think it's reasonable - would be a nice feeling not be considered a thief for once (which Stardock and Gas Powered haven't - thank you ).
And piracy is really incalculable because trying to discern the actual loss from sales it more like chaos theory then economics.

The only people to have any issues with anti-piracy measures are the people that don’t intend to circumvent said measures; pirates are pissing themselves laughing at the industry.

Listen, the technology exists for all software company's to implement tighter anti-piracy controls. They choose not too because their fat little grubby fingers choose to cut corners.. because of greed people. How many folks out there have had any success getting a refund for the Crap software some of these company's are pushing out? Lets use CRYSIS as an example here since any opportunity they get they complain about piracy, when in fact they deceived every hyped gamer that wanted this game AS IT WAS ADVERTISED, many purchased including myself only to find out that the High end machine I had would just barely run this game (very poorly I might add). What rights do the consumers have when buying software? NONE!!!! Ohh BTW they do not loose a cent, in fact they write it off as losses.

If they want to stop it they can using authentication systems but that would take money invested into there infrastructure to setup and maintain, That is not part of there business models. They rather Hype, deceive, and shut the door in your face once you forked over your hard earned cash.

My hat is off for Stardock and Gas Powered games for saying what is right, not that EA or Activision would ever stand up and support it.

The only rights you have is he right to choose the game provided to you. You vote with your wallet its simple you want it you buy it everything else is relative. I'd much prefer the rights of crackers/hackers the right to real freedom of cracking providing free games for all.
