If you are un-able to log into Steam, it may be because of

a spot of wind that hit the Washington state area (where Valve is located). Keep in mind that Valve doesn't control the weather, nor the power grid, nor can they make repairs to electric poles that have been snapped in half. With Steam unavailable, peop

That is one of the reasons i'll never buy a STEAM related game.
Anything can happen to the net when your the other side of the world, and of course VALVE just say, 'it's not our fault'. Well it *is*, your the ones who make punters log in just to play SP.

FFS do you even know ANYTHING you jerkoff? You can play anything that is installed on your PC via Steam! Figures you wouldn't know. All talk, zero brain. HL2, CS:S, Dark Messiah anything can be played in OFFLINE mode. I'd like to punt your skinny ass though!! God I'd give a million dollars to kick ur stupid arse. Hahahahaah! Course, ur a chick and I don't hit chicks. Too bad! The only fault remains with the dumbass behind the PC StumpedASS! Get a brain for a change!

I can't even remember the last time Steam went down. I was surprised when it happened, I figured someone finally figured out how to hack steam server. Unfortunately it was just weather. Good to know.

I have steam store my password, meaning i am generally eligible for offline mode. The problem lies when you try to sign into a dead server (just to double check) and it fails. It automatically assumes the worst and asks you for your password again. This means that you have to authenticate again to play (offline or online). And since the server is down, that removes the option of playing in offline mode.

It it valves fault. They need to distribute their infrastructure to more than one location on the planet if they want to be a "global" company. Haven't they heard of the "all your eggs in one basket" mantra?

It took this incident to make me realize I got sucked into a DRM ploy. I had thought that as long as I had previously signed in it would atleast let me play the singleplayer games I have, but no, they decided that in the situation they can't be notified that your running steam, that you aren't allowed to play?

The answer? Next time there is an outage, don't give steam access to the internet when starting it. That way it will automatically drop you down to offline mode.
