Yeah, its all about the in game ads.
Speaking of ingame ads, you know I didn't realize until just recently when I dusted off my sister's old dreamcast. And then went out and bought a bunch of games for it, that a lot of old games had ingame ads, I guess it was never a big deal when the games weren't 50-60$ a piece. lol |

| its not spyware, it just makes sure its not going to sell u an add for some local UK store when your in the USA....although i dont like in game adds I must admit that dev costs are SKYROCKETING to make higher quality games, if people are going to reject this so strongly we may very well end up with far fewer games to chose from in the future, and with notiably less quality or 'fun' factors. |

That's a weak excuse. Game development costs are rising, but this is mainly because more and more companies are focusing on "hollywood" style games instead of trying to improve playability. EA didn't do anything new, they took an old concept polished it with something that could just as well be a $20 add-on for BF2.
If the revelation of this adware isn't transparent enough to show that EA is trying to milk as much as they can out of consumers, then look at what they did with their unlock system in the game.
This type of thing should never be tolerated in a game that costs $50. I could see it being justified if the whole game was a free download though... |

It IS spyware;
"Any software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes."
And the covert part of it is of course that you have no controll or knowledge of this "information gathered for advertisment purposes" and what is really gathered.
I'm not even going to break on how much I'm disgusted by this, I'm just gonna boycott any last product (there One of knowledge) I thought of buying from them. Good bye Command & Conquer - may the ethernal soul of Westwood guard you past this. |
