A new performance test of Valveâ??s Steam Machine has shown disappointing results in modern AAA games.
At 1440p on Medium/High settings with ray tracing, **Cyberpunk 2077** ran at just 28 FPS. **Black Myth: Wukong** (Very High) managed only 20 FPS, and **Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora** (Ultra) hit 21 FPS.

The Steam machine is meant to live in a living room. Meaning, it can't be too hot and thus loud, so it has a low TDP processor and the GPU is also limited to around 100-something watts. There's nothing surprising here. Valve never claimed it would be a power monster, they claimed it was enough to play games. You can play the games listed at usable frame rates if you *don't* try to run them on max.
Trying to run them on max is 100% operator error.
The price of the unit did go much higher than anyone, especially Valve, wanted, but have you *seen* the fucking insanity that is the PC market now that the AI psychos have gone full nutjob on the market? |

It’s meant for dimwits. Those that haven’t a PC-building-clue and cant tie shoelaces.
Which is a LOT. Plus of course anything that Steam produces has cult following and status in their bedroom worlds.
My rig is 2 1/2 year old now RTX 4060TI etc. I play Avatar at 1440 @100fps on ultra. Which say enough about this junk where you are just paying for *parts and labour* not performance.
It also cost me, as I built it, £800.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the SSDs are Recycled.
‘We’re committed, sell it’. Said fat Gabe |
