Microsoft's April 2026 security update (KB5083769) for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 has broken third-party backup applications by disrupting the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). Affected tools include UrBackup, Macrium Reflect, and Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, causing backups to fail with timeout errors.
