| Yeah, it really is ridiculous top it off with the fact that a lot of the folks doing this stuff aren't the best programmers to begin with and its a recipe for problems. Whats next special drives for games that use proprietary media or like games stored in a dongle? |

Sony will buy out StarForce to make a weapon to blow up CD drives using AutoPlay.
Then if you try to remove the s!"£ware it will force overclock the FSB and blow up your CPU and also blow up your hard disks.
Then after that more things will probably blow up. |

veistran, don't talk from your ass. who the hell are you to say they aren't the best programmers? What a load of crap. Like you know if they are good or not.. Pfff. So if you remove that statement from your post, your post is completely meaningless. If they are bad programmers then why haven't I seen 1 person actually win on a claim starforce broke their PC. And I'd like to see how you could prove such a statement.
And if you don't like Starforce show them you don't like it by not buying the game. End of story. Everyone bellyaches about Starforce but there is more than enough tools out there to block it. |

| The end of the world is near, so why care much about the end of the PC-gaming period. |

I don't buy any games protected by StarForce, and I don't know about you but I can think of multiple examples of problems arising directly from various content protection schemes. From compability problems to false positives to exploitable code etc. Even the more innocous ones haven't been without their issues, look at Steam and the HL2 launch that was anything but flawless. As far as taking StarForce to court, they're located in Russia which would make things rather interesting and I'm no expert but probably pretty darn hard. I imagine you'd be better off trying to sue someone like EA for using the protection and even then they have armies of lawyers. I don't know about you, but I don't exactly have the kind of cash to take them on.
It all comes down to these schemes have directly caused me to really have no desire to purchase most games anymore. I don't really enjoy having to jump through hoops just to play the game I paid them $50 for. I don't begrudge the games companies their right to protect their work but for me as a consumer if that protection is not transparent, its really not worth my time and money to buy their game. I spend enough time having to download patches for things that should've never made it into a final release that I don't feel need to spend 2hrs trying to figure out how to get the game running because it doesn't like my current software configuration. If you want want to be an apologist for them knock yourself out, but just because nobody has sued them isn't a good example of why they don't write shoddy code. |
