Summoner (PC) Interview - interview
|
| (hx) 06:50 PM CET - Mar,21 2001 |
After being out for the PlayStation 2 since October, Summoner for the PC is hitting store shelves today. RPGPlanet has learn more about Joseph and his technicolor, summoning powers from Anoop Shekar, the Assistant Producer.
RPGPlanet: How did the idea of creating a game such as Summoner come about? What have been sources of inspiration for creating this title?
Anoop: After we finished FreeSpace the team was asked what type of game they would like to do next. Some people really wanted to do an RPG since that was one of their favorite genres and so the team brainstormed ideas. Sandeep Shekar, our lead designer, then went off with those ideas and wrote the initial draft of the Summoner story. Later our writer, Jason Scott, refined the story a great deal to get it into the form it is in the final game. There have been many influences for Summoner. Influences include books such as the Lord of the Rings and the Earthsea trilogy and game like the Final Fantasy series and Planescape: Torment. We also used quite a bit of Chinese and Japanese mythology.
