Beyond HalfLife has posted
an interview with Sven Co-op's Sniper as he talks about
Sven Co-op, a
Co-operative based game for Valve Software's Half-Life. In this mod, players
must work together against computer controlled enemies and solve puzzles as a
team. Here is a slice:
BYHL: Whether you've started working on it or not, where do you envision the focus of Sven Coop for Half-Life 2? Do you want to make a cooperative version of the single player game? Do you want to make your own maps and gameplay modes? Have you guys done any planning for Half-Life 2, or are you still working on HL1?
Sniper: We're experimenting a little bit with Sven Co-op for Half-Life right now (version 3.5), but the focus for Sven Co-op 2 probably wont be covering the single player mission as we did in the original game. We're [definitely] going to see about supporting that, so that our player base will be happy running through the single player missions with their friends and such, but we're going to do a great deal more than that.
The current focus I'd say is entering the area of objective based gameplay. Giving the players goals to accomplish on maps, like defending structures or assaulting bases to steal things and such. Basically we want to get a lot of mileage out of the AI as we're doing in the original Sven Co-op now, so that the AI can be used to do all sorts of "Hey, that's pretty smart" game-play related things, and give real purpose to maps.
