 GeForce 6 Announcement & Previews - tech
(hx) 07:15 PM CEST - Apr,14 2004
NVIDIA sent out a press release annoucing NVIDIA GeForce  6800 models of graphics processing units (GPUs) for high-performance desktop computers. The first GPUs based on the NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series, the GeForce 6800 Ultra and GeForce 6800 models, are manufactured using IBM's high-volume 0.13-micron process technology and are currently shipping to leading add-in-card partners, OEMs, system builders, and game developers. Retail graphics boards based on the GeForce 6800 models are slated for release in the next 45 days.
GeForce 6800 GPUs have a programmable video processing engine that delivers stunning high-definition video playback. Featuring support for MPEG encode and decode, as well as support for Windows Media Video 9 (WMV9), the GeForce 6800 delivers an amazing video experience when used with the Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition operating system. The GeForce 6800 also enables high-quality video playback on any window size, and has an integrated TV-encoder for direct-to-TV playback.

As DOOM 3 development winds to a close, my work has turned to development of the next generation rendering technology. The NV40 is my platform of choice due to its support of very long fragment programs, generalized floating point blending and filtering, and the extremely high performance," said John Carmack, president and technical director of id Software

Looks like a fast card, wants lots of power and has some issues with Far Cry. Otherwise, an amazing beast. Now to see what ATI has up their sleeves..

With ATi's launch date so close, I'm assuming those lucky enough to review the engineering samples already know who will be king or is king. Can't wait to see ATi's offering.

ATI's offering = more crappy drivers. Nuff said.

Why are you an NVIDIA fanboy? Like they care what you think. Haha.

Comments from nvidiafanboyposted - 02:45 PM CEST - Apr,15 2004
They do care. That's why they keep releasing superb quality high-end video cards! i am a nvidiahugeheatsink+fanboy. =)

don't even bother, ati people have ati cards for a reason. they are clued right out. trying to present them with fact nvidia is a way better card, both from support, stability and performance they don't get it and will continue until someone shoots them. ati has so many problems and if you talk to dev's they will tell you more how anal ati is with their drivers and their game support. ati expects developers to meet 'ati' standard but unfortunately for ati they haven't clued in with all the games 'designed' for nvidia and the fact there is not one game out that states 'made for ati'. i love companies who try to act like they are first when in reality all the games come out with nvidia logo's. u have to be a utter idiot to buy ati.

and you have to be an utter idiot :)

wow. original name, zero intellect in response. u must be a ati owner.

Comments from zzzzposted - 09:23 PM CEST - Apr,15 2004
thx :)) Hmmm, let me guess... You must be an nvidia owner? :) Seriously, who gives a flying f(censored by me) which card you have? Please save your 'intellect' and your judgements to yourself.

no, make me. actually i am both. i choose nvidia all the way, but then i'm a longtime gamer.

Comments from Jessposted - 11:25 PM CEST - Apr,15 2004
NVIDIA pay developers to splash their stupid TWIMTBP™ logo all over games and packaging. It doesn't mean that the games will look or run any better with NVIDIA cards. Also, xxxx - longtime gamer? Then act your age and stop being so childish.

umm afraid its more than that there Jess. course im sure a ati fanboy likely told you that and as a typical ati owner you believed it. 90% of the time nvidia helps them with the game as nvidia did with STALKER. so sorry to pop ur logic bubble, but that's the sad fact. also Jess, i like lowering myself to other peoples levels. sorry but that again is another sad fact.
