  • Windows Code May Be Stolen - Microsoft is investigating rumors that the secret code underlying its Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems has leaked out and is available on the Internet, a company spokesperson confirms. The supposed leak was reported by Microsoft enthusiast Web site Neowin.net, which called it "shocking and potentially devastating news." The source code of the two operating systems is rumored to be spreading on a peer-to-peer file-sharing network as well as on Internet relay chat (IRC).
  • "Robin Hood" virus on the loose -  A new variant of the Nachi worm is patching PCs that are vulnerable to MyDoom.A. Nachi B, also known as Welchi, copies itself onto systems using the same flaw as MyDoom.A, as a file named 'Svchost.exe'.  It then attempts to delete MyDoom and downloads patches to fix the security hole.
  • Software allows game copying - Software maker 321 Studios, whose products for copying DVD movies have drawn controversy and lawsuits, released a new application Thursday for copying PC games. Game X Copy allows PC gamers to create a backup of any title and store it either on the PC's hard drive or recordable CD or DVD, according to the company. 321 spokeswoman Julia Bishop-Cross said the software was created at the behest of parents, who wanted a way to protect their investment in PC games for their children in case a game disc becomes scratched or otherwise unreadable.
  • MSI FX5900XT-VTD128 Videocard review - The MSI FX5900XT-VTD128 videocard  retails for about $290 CDN ($220 US), and is backed with 128MB of DDR RAM, has a DVI port, and even sports S-Video output. With an nVidia FX5900XT chip under the hood, the results should be pretty good.
  • Abit's Radeon 9800 XT graphics card review - If you're looking for blazing frame rates at high resolutions with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering enabled, the Radeon 9800 XT is clearly the way to go. However, the card won't come cheap—bragging rights rarely do. Expect the eventual street price of Abit's 9800 XT to be competitive with 9800 XTs from ATI and the rest of its partners. And remember, that Half-Life 2 voucher should represent at least $50 of value for anyone who was already planning on buying the game.
  • Coding Workshop Polyphonic Wizard 2.4 - The Coding Workshop Polyphonic Wizard (download) is a software program for your PC that allows you to add new ringtones and pictures to your polyphonic phone without the need for cables or sms (text) services. The Polyphonic Wizard supports most makes and models of polyphonic phone including models from Alcatel, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, Nokia, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Sendo, Sharp and Siemens.
  • SiSoft Sandra 2004 SP1 - download standard ~ pro.
  • Avant Browser 9.01 Build 113 - Avant Browser (download) is an upgrade to Internet Explorer. Avant Browser is a fast, stable, user-friendly, versatile multi-window browser. Avant Browser is freeware.
  • DVD Shrink 3.15 - DVD Shrink does not burn DVDs! The output from DVD Shrink is saved as files on your hard drive, which you can then burn to a DVD-R using separate burning software, such as the software provided with your DVD-R drive.
  • PHP 5.0.0 Beta 4 -  This fourth beta of PHP 5 is also scheduled to be the last one (barring unexpected surprises, that did occur with beta 3). This beta incorporates dozens of bug fixes since Beta 3, rewritten exceptions support, improved interfaces support, new experimental SOAP support, as well as lots of other improvements, some of which are documented in the ChangeLog.
  • SecureCRT 4.1.2 (SHW) - SecureCRT (download) gives you an encrypted SSH session with both SSH1 and SSH2 servers. SSH security goes far beyond the basic secure logon, rerouting data or local applications using TCP/IP ports through an encrypted channel. The VCP utility secures file transfers using SFTP.
  • SecureFX 2.2.2 - The SecureFX client application (download) lets you choose between SFTP or FTP over an encrypted SSH2 connection for secure transfers, or standard FTP for non-secure transfers. It has a simple Explorer-like interface, so it's easy to learn and use.
  • BWMeter 1.3 - BWMeter (download) is a powerful bandwidth meter and monitor, which measures and displays all traffic on your network.

it was only a small fraction and nothing can really be done with the code. its nothing big that all these sites are making it out to be.

I think billgates is making reference to half-life 2 Only a small portion of code was stolen (probally beta or alpha)of the half-life 2 source and its been almost a year.OK 5months but it feels like a year darnit.

The code is real but it's not soo partial that it won't really hurt the NT/2k core, but some are speculating there could be more where it came from...just like hl2...don't you just love the internet and the irc channels ;-)

Guys read the link. "However, only part of the source code appears to have leaked. Those who say they have downloaded the code claim to have a 200MB compressed file that expands into roughly 600MB of code, says Thor Larholm, a senior security researcher at PivX Solutions, in Newport Beach, California." It's big enough. Regardless, there will be some hefty law suits, since M$ have openly admitted the 'leak'. I'm sure plenty of businesses are talking to lawyers regarding action.

and a firewall and antivirus wouldn't protect you anyhow... hmmm. I sincerely doubt it.
