Telefragged has posted a preview of
Gangland, the
upcoming organized crime strategy game with RPG and empire building elements by
Media Mobsters and Whiptail Interactive (pre-order).
The game should be available later this month. Here is an excerpt:
Gangland is by no means an easy game. You have to manage your medkits and ammo, and maybe wait around for the gun shop you've taken over to deliver some more bullets. While each of your crew has health, enemies will generally target the guy in your group with the least health, making it hard to keep everyone alive in a firefight. You might also need to consider some tactics as well; ducking behind a dumpster allows you better cover than standing out in the street.
Combat does feel like a bit of a mess in Gangland so far, and I hope that MediaMobsters tightens it up a bit. While your Bouncers stick to fisticuffs or melee weapons, a majority of the guys you hire on will probably be using guns. Most of the time, enemies will start firing before you even see them, so you have to keep on the lookout and scramble for cover while under fire. On top of this, I had a bit of an issue where sometimes my guys would start firing back immediately, and sometimes they'd just stand there taking repeated hits. There is an option for turning off automatically returning fire, and toggling it off and on didn't seem to help in these situations.
