  • The return of shareware - Shareware didn't start in 1993, but it made a huge splash that year. That's when id Software unleashed "Doom" on the world. Millions of people downloaded and enjoyed the free, abbreviated version of the game. Of those, roughly 160,000 called id to order the full version of the game, paying $40 plus shipping and handling. By the time Doom II rolled around the next year, though, retail distribution had taken over - and the game sold more than 2 million copies.
  • CeBIT Comes to America - The first CeBIT show in America may be all work and little play, but plenty of business-savvy gadgets abound at this confab hosted by the German conventioneer. CeBIT America takes over the Javits Center here this week as a broad selection of vendors, including Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and PalmSource, turn up the buzz on business tech wares amid a tech slump. Between chatter over total cost of ownership and other enterprise issues, attendees will also be able to peruse pedestrian products like a sub-$1000 Tablet PC, a souped-up Handspring smartphone, and a selection of ever-faster wireless 802.11g products. An estimated 20,000 CeBIT attendees are expected at the conference, about half the number originally forecast for the event last year. Attendees will be able to prowl 360 companies' exhibits. CeBIT America pales by comparison with the eight-day CeBIT supershow held each spring in Hanover, Germany.
  • Nero All-in-One Authoring Updated - Ahead Software is unveiling Nero 6.0 Ultra Edition, a suite of updated CD and DVD recording tools that includes such features as a video editor, a full backup program, and a software DVD player. The package, announced at CeBIT America here this week, is scheduled for release July 18.
  • Decoded male chromosome reveals surprises  - The genetic sequence of the human Y chromosome has been published, unveiling surprises that will advance research on infertility, rekindle debates on the evolution of the sexes and challenge the controversial idea that the Y chromosome is a genetic junkyard destined for extinction. The male-determining Y has long been considered a vestigial chromosome, a dilapidated repository of genetic material with an ever-dwindling, tiny collection of about 40 genes. The reason for the genetic attrition, scientists thought, was the Y's inability to pair and swap genetic material with any other chromosome. That takes place during a special process called crossing-over, which is key to repairing genetic mutations and preserving genes. Another nice story can be found at Wired.
  • 20 Ways the World Could End  - We've had a good run of it. In the 500,000 years Homo sapiens has roamed the land we've built cities, created complex languages, and sent robotic scouts to other planets. It's difficult to imagine it all coming to an end.
  • US Senator would destroy MP3 traders' PCs - The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Orrin Hatch (Republican, Utah), thinks it would be a fabulous idea if copyright owners could remotely destroy computers that contain pirated material, the Associated Press reports. "I'm all for destroying their machines," Hatch said during a Committee hearing Tuesday. "'If you have a few hundred thousand of those, I think people would realize' the seriousness of their actions," the wire service quotes him as saying.
  • Infighting killed Sony's first games handheld - PlayStation Portable (PSP) is not the first time that Sony has developed a handheld gaming system, it has emerged, with a Japanese business publication revealing details of the company's one-time plans to release a portable platform in 2000. According to the report, which appeared on the Nikkei BP news service, a project called "ET Project" was undertaken at Sony headquarters (as opposed to Sony Computer Entertainment) in late 1998, aimed at creating a portable console for release in 2000.
  • HP Readies Athlon64 3100+ PC - Introducing the Athlon64 at a model number rating of 3100+ appears to indicate that the chip does not perform as well as AMD's current 32-bit Athlon XP 3200+ processor, released in May. The Athlon64 3100+ will have a clock speed of 1.8 GHz and 1 MB of level 2 cache, according to the HP document. The Athlon XP 3200+ runs at 2.2 GHz and comes with 640 KB of level 2 cache. "The reference card sports a heatsink and fan assembly that is surely the shiniest in the industry. My absymal digital camera skills don't pick it out very well, but the front face on the heatsink is mirror like. In the right light you can double your PCI slots. We've got the usual 4 pin Molex style connector on the top right, and the board arrived with a Y-splitter just incase I couldn't find a spare connector from the quarter billion my Enermax PSU provides. Expect a nifty splitter in the retail box."

humans are still very primative. A large portion of the world is brainwashed to believe that ignorance is knowledge and still believe in the "GOD" concept. I mean do you believe in magic?. Lets use our brains and some logic wishing for something does not make it so. You actually have to take action to accomplish a goal. Unforntunately its too easy to brainwash children to believe stupid and ignorant ideas such as relgion. Too many dumb people are wasting there lives "worshiping god" when they can be doing something constructive instead.If you want to teach children to be good teach them THE LAW not RELGION. RElgion is a vague an out of date concept used to keep people "GOOD". However its time is over it does more harm then good in today's world. More advanced accurate concepts need to be taught such as the LAW. there is nothing worse than someone doing something bad and then blaming it on god. And its ANTI-HUMAN to say god gave me this or god did that for us. Show some pride for OUR SPECIES WE ACCOMPLISHED EVERYTHING ON OUR OWN. God did not make the United NATIONS HUMANS DID!. Its very disturbing that a large majority of the human population does not even know basic concepts of logic. If you can't think logically then your not as smart as people who can and you are more likely to make stupid conclusions/decisions. I think i species is weak and small minded and we don't see the big picture enough. Also i think that the HUMAN SPECIES in general is becoming more cowardly. which is very disturbing. just look at the UNited nations recent inability to act in kosovo and iraq. BE PRO HUMAN.if you want to worship someone worship the humans that have sacrificed there entire lives to helping us live a better life. NO WE DOOMED!

Reglion is belief of god based on ignorance. This is a totally stupid way to reason. And its a harmful way to reason. example : "i will pray so my child gets better but not take him to doctor" that would be totally stupid.As i said before wishing for something does not make it so. You got to take action to accomplish a goal. Thinking in a stupid manner limits technological growth. More people need to read logic books and reject relgion and just follow the LAW. you might saw which law? i say any LAW that respects the human life. But many i like the law's from the western world. Yes the law is no perfect but its better than relgion. Because it holds you accountable to HUMANS not some imagary figure. no i can't seem to find any distortions in what i wrote maybe you can tell me what they are? then i can understand what you mean? im not trying to insult you. im not saying im 100% correct. but i hope you get my point.Some people on this planet think of themseleves as being from a particular country i think of my self as being from earth. i think of myself as being HUMAN from earth. not amercian from USA or chinese from CHINA e.t.c. .. if you don't stand up agaisnt villians who will? nowadays its not benefical for humans to focus all our military resources fighting each other when a bigger and dangerous threat may exist. "i will pray so my child gets better but not take him to doctor" that's actually a very stupid thing to do. The way I see it Doctors are instruments of God and they HELP cure diseases. People that think like that are blinded by their own ignorance and they are extremists that do not realize that God is everywhere. About rejecting religion... why?! You can read logic books, philosphy books, science books and STILL believe in God. Religion is only supposed to GUIDE you through life. You can also argue that the LAW can do that, but in reality people are more scared of God than a simple human Judge that is going to send you jail for 10 years. God is the almighty judge. You might go to jail for 10, 25 years, but you will burn in hell for eternity if you don't repent.

Whether you have law or religion, there will always be BAD people. God does not hold your hand and walk you through life, and you wouldn't want it either. Why? Would you want your parents to keep telling you what to do and not leave any decisions to yourself? No of course not. HOWEVER, you will take advice and guidance, such as what God is telling you through the Bible. The Bible is very easy to understand and is summed up in it's entirety to two golden rules - (1) Love your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. (2) Love your neighbour as you love yourself. With that in mind, the decisions we face in life and the choices we make in life are completely up to us. If you choose to leave God out of your life because of religion, do yourself a favour and make your OWN decision AFTER you've done YOUR OWN research. Read the Bible and you'll see how much life is so much easier. Once you have actually looked diligently at the source - THE BIBLE- of what makes people believe in God, then will I take your own decision at that point to be NOT IGNORANT.

If you don't have a reason to conclude that event B occured. but you conclude event B occured. Thats called making a stupid conclusion. i don't believe in the concept of only TWO sides which are "good" and "evil" sides. Those words are realive to who side your on. If im on the side of humans killing deer to eat is good cause i want to live and eat. But for the deer it would be bad for humans to kill them cause they die. So you see for humans killing deer is acceptable and for deer humans killing deer is not acceptable.for one side event A is considered good. and for the other side event A is considered bad. They are no absolutes in life. I think the "reglion" books where created by humans as a form of mind control and order. to keep people in order by invoking fear or reprisal from a fictious figure. relgions are just basically extremely popular cults. Some of the reglion ideas are ok but the manner of its presentation is harmful. The other bunch of ideas just teach people to make conclusion in a stupid manner which is harmful. Humans are the force on this planet don't forget that not some fictious character.anyway your comments have been interesting.

We you die your existence as a human ends. sure the molecules you once used might be used in another animal but that quality that makes us "Human" is lost forever. thats all i know for sure. this statement assumes you live after your dead in some other form RETAINING YOUR "HUMAN SELF". There are no facts to support such a conclusion. This statement seems dumb. i disagree and think that jail time IS more of a deterinent then "punishment from god" cause there's no evidence that a god even exists. even if there was a god WHO is god to tell me how i should live? WE ARE THE FORCE! we humans worked hard to survive all these years no one helped us out in a big way. why should i give credit to a fictious character for our hard work and self determination?
