- CD Piracy Ring Smashed In Manilla - Authorities in the Philippines
have
dismantled a major CD-R piracy ring believed to be responsible for
providing at least half of the pirate music and film products available Metro
Manila, the country's notorious stronghold of criminal and pirate activity.
Following a two-month intelligence gathering operation by IFPI SE Asia
anti-piracy personnel, officers of the Philippines Video Regulatory Board and
IFPI SE Asia representatives took part in a series of raids on January 15
supported by over 500 armed police and military personnel, including sniper
teams.
- ABIT puts security on the motherboard - ABIT today launched server
motherboards featuring integrated security processors, with a promise to
slash the cost of building security appliances. The Taiwanese manufacturer's
SI-1N Pentium 4 processor-based server motherboard comes with Cavium Network's
NITROX Security Macro Processor, designed to gear their deployment towards

Webservers, and SSL VPNs. It hopes to sell these security-enhanced
motherboards to security appliance OEMs.

- Flashfix Tool For Lite-On Drives -
The
firmware update utility of Liteon/Jlms drives will sometime refuse to
flash the drive. E.g: It will not allow to "downgrade" the firmware or to
reflash with the same firmware version and it will refuse most OEM and all
rebadged drives. The
Flashfix
utility will patch many Liteon/Jlms Windows based firmware utilities so as to
allow them to flash ANY drive. It does not change the firmware itself, it only
disables the model/version checkup function of the flasher.
