- Intel gives leg-up to UK pro gaming - The gig takes place at
the Science Museum in London
on Saturday 21 December, and the winners are in for a nice Christmas treat
- there's a prize pot of L25,000 at stake, a record for a UK gaming
event, Intel says. Twenty-four clans have been invited, and to ensure an even
playing field, all will play on 3.06GHz P4 QTech rigs, supplied by UK PC
builder Quantum Microponents (sic). And the games? Counter Strike, Return to
Castle Wolfenstein and Warcraft 3.

- U.S. Navy Seizes Cadet Computers in Internet Probe -
Officials at the U.S. Naval Academy have
seized the computers of nearly 100 students in a search for bootlegged music
and movies, an Academy official confirmed on Monday. Cadets could face
court martial or expulsion if investigators find digital songs or other
copyrighted material on their hard drives. Naval Academy administrators seized
the desktop computers last Thursday while students were in class, newspapers
in Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland, reported. An academy spokeswoman
confirmed that the reports were accurate but declined further comment.
- Laser Used to Move Brain Cells in Lab Experiment - In an advance
that sounds like science fiction,
scientists have used a laser beam to guide and control the growth of brain
cells in the laboratory. This is not the first time that scientists have
used lasers to manipulate human cells, but the new method has an important
advantage, according to the lead investigator, Dr. Allen Ehrlicher, of the
University of Leipzig in Germany. Unlike another laser technique called
"optical tweezers," the approach used in the study, Ehrlicher told Reuters
Health, moves cells without actually touching them. Moving cells often damages
them, but the researchers found that cells manipulated using the new technique
appeared to grow at a faster-than-normal pace while being stimulated to make
up to 90-degree directional turns.
- Interesting new AA modes for GF3s and GF4s - Using the D3D tubes AA
demo, I tested 4XS AA to see if there was an improvement in current 40.72 WHQL
drivers. No change really at all in that mode, but being the daring guy
I am, I used Rivatuner to set the AA mode to 7, (5 = 4xs) and
look what happened...(pics)

That's not to say the game hasn't given a few people problems in the

through all the in-game performance settings, and the main tweaks and tips
I've uncovered so far, so follow along and
