- SBC has plans for Internet security - SBC Communications announced
Monday that it
is
forming an Internet security project designed to improve network defenses.
The company said that network-based security could bring several significant
advances. For example, a network could be designed to detect unusual flows of
traffic converging on a particular customer. If the traffic is considered a
distributed denial-of-service attack, the network could automatically filter
the offending traffic from multiple locations, SBC said.
- Braid virus winds its way through e-mail - Although the
company has seen only 43 copies of the virus--indicating an extremely slow
start--W32.Braid
shares some attributes of the widely spread Klez family of viruses and
could have similar success. Among the similarities, both viruses forge a fake
sender address in the e-mails they use to propagate themselves, which makes
finding infected PCs more difficult.

Conference, Nokia is showing
a slew
of new phones, including the 6800 messaging device, 2100 entry-level phone

- Intel doubles cache on new Xeons - The new chips--formerly
code-named Gallatin--are enhanced versions of Intel's Xeon line for
multiprocessor servers. The fastest of the new
chips
runs at 2GHz and contains a 2MB tertiary cache, a reservoir of memory for
rapid data access. The older Xeon, which came out in March, tops out at 1.6GHz
and has a 1MB cache.
- End-Of-Life For the GeForce4 Ti4600: GeForce4 Ti4200 Forever -

processors at TSMC fabs and the company's closest partners confirmed the
information. Moreover, some retailers indicated the tight supply of the
GeForce4 Ti4600 based products in the channel
- NV30 Tech Facts - NVIDIA's "Are You Ready?" web site has been
updated
with a new "F" button, which reveals some facts about the upcoming NV30: 3
times the size of a Pentium 4 microprocessor ~ 35 times the size of NVIDIA's
RIVA 128 GPU, released just five years ago ~ 3.9 years, if you took one second
to count every transistor ~ 4.5 times the population of Tokyo, Japan ~ If
converted to US Dollar bills and placed end-to-end, would stretch from New
York to Hong Kong ~ More than the number of people in the entire world who
speak French or German ~ nice hype :)
- Tech PC Cooling Guide - In any method of cooling you need a form of
fluid to rush past the CPU to take the heat with it (convection cooling). With
most computers the fluid is air blown by a fan over the heatsink. In those
more adventurous overclockers looking for a reduction in temperatures, more
speed or less heat water is used. This is more of a technical challenge since,
as we all know, water and electricity don't get along. For the most
insane/rich/hardcore (delete as you see fit) overclockers out there there is
Phase Change. Based on the same technology that keeps your milk cold in your
fridge, it is capable of
producing
temperature well blow zero.
