  • Xbox bundled with games for holidays - Between Oct. 15 and the end of the year, Xbox buyers will get copies of "Sega GT 2002," a racing game, and Sega's "Jet Set Radio Future" free with the purchase of a $199 Xbox. Separately, each game costs $49.95.
  • New XBox defeated: X-Ecuter v2 modchip is coming out soon - The X-Exuter official website has word that Evox Dashboard works as normal on the new v1.1 XBOX.
  • The case of the bootleg 'Star Wars'  - SHEA O'BRIEN FOLEY, a former production assistant at LucasFilm, was arrested last week and charged with 13 counts of felony for the theft of an estimated $450,000 worth of "Star Wars"-related material from his ex-employer, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
  • Deep Fritz beats the human--still trails chess match - The supercomputer, programmed to evaluate 3.5 millions in a second, won its first game of the "Brains in Bahrain" challenge to narrow the 27-year-old Russian's lead to 3-2. Kramnik had won games two and three of the series, while the first and fourth games ended in draws.
  • Cloning team looks to human embryos - Ian Wilmut, leader of the team which cloned Dolly the sheep, is to plunge into uncharted scientific waters by trying to clone human embryos for research. Prof Wilmut's plan is controversial because it seeks to create cloned embryos not, as has been speculated, for growing cells and organs for transplant, but for research into diseases. This could provide an alternative to animal testing, although opponents of any kind of cloning will find the idea of "embryos for medical testing" as easy to condemn as "embryos for spare parts".
  • How mobile phones let spies see our every move - UK Government's secret Celldar project will allow surveillance of anyone, at any time and anywhere there is a phone signal .The system works wherever a mobile phone can pick up a signal. By using receivers attached to mobile phone masts, users of the new technology could focus in on areas hundreds of miles away and bring up a display showing any moving vehicles and people.  An individual with one type of receiver, a portable unit little bigger than a laptop computer, could even use it as a 'personal radar' covering the area around the user. Researchers are working to give the new equipment 'X-ray vision' - the capability to 'see' through walls and look into people's homes.
  • Gitex 2002 (Day 2) Coverage - T-break continue their coverage of Gitex 2002 (day2) (day1), they have posted images of the nForce2, KT400A, SiS 655 and a new cube PC from shuttle based on the 845GE chipset.
  • IBM races new PowerPC chip - The new chip might prove a boon to Apple Computer, which could use it to substantially narrow a growing performance gap with the PC world--PC chips will run at 3GHz by the end of the year. Sources familiar with IBM and Apple's plans said that Apple will be a customer for the PowerPC 970 next year. Apple did not return calls for comment.
  • GeForce4 460 Go Announced - NVIDIA has officially announced their GeForce4 460 Go mobile graphics chipset, and also announced that the GeForce4 460 Go will be available in their Satellite 5205-S703 notebook.
  • Toshiba to unveil Bluetooth mobile storage device - Toshiba is set to launch a Bluetooth-equipped portable storage device. The Hopbit will offer 5GB of storage, enough for around 1000 MP3 audio tracks and 3000 digital images from a three-megapixel camera. The Bluetooth module will allow users to seamlessly transfer data from other devices such as handheld computers. It's expected to receive its debut at the World PC Expo, which opens in Tokyo on October 16.
