  • Net traffic mimics earthquakes - Earthquakes and the Internet may seem very different, but they do have one thing in common. They're both complex systems whose behavior is currently very difficult to predict.
  • Expert demonstrates Microsoft hack - The expert showed how to crack the security systems for Internet banking, breaking into three of Sweden's big four banks in quick succession. He was then able to show how to conceal his tracks, making detection difficult afterward.

  • Microsoft: WinXP Update Could 'Bomb' Some Computers - In an attempt to reduce piracy of its software, Microsoft has announced protective changes to its Windows Product Activation (WPA) service, beginning with WinXP Service Pack 1. As veteran Microsoft watchers have expected, SP1 will not install if either of what the company calls "two well-known pirated product keys" has ever been used to activate the system. Such systems will also be denied access to Microsoft's Windows Update feature. According to Microsoft, "the product IDs generated from these product keys are (where X may be any numeric value): XXXXX-640-0000356-23XXX and XXXXX-640-2001765-23XXX.

  • CPU Upgrade: Do you really need it? - I'll admit, when I saw the benchmarks, I wanted the chips, but in truth, economics are a factor. Contrary to popular belief, not all webmasters get everything for free. Yessir, I'm a commoner, just like most people, and if I want something, it's going to come out of my pocket. Don't get me wrong, if I could, I'd buy every new thing that gets released everyday, but when you got a family to care for and bills to pay, I could probably do without the $500 Butt Massager Chair.
  • Creative Audigy Installation on Windows XP Pro - Okay, start your system and boot into Windows XP. XP will detect the new hardware; and as the installation blurb from Creative states click 'Cancel' for each device and then insert the drivers and program installation disk. The disk should auto run, if it doesn't double click the icon on your CD-ROM drive entitled SB Audigy. Select your language and then select 'Audigy install'.- Read more

Re: The death of Betamax I think it's important for people to remember that while it did fail against the VHS recording systems (what a battle THAT was), it was the first home tv recording unit available and the MPAA fought against its existance all the way to the US Supreme Court. Just like they're doing now with DVD recorders. R.I.P. Betamax (Yeah I had one ;))
