- More flaws found in Explorer -
Microsoft has announced that it has
found more
security flaws in several versions of Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0
software programs. The Redmond giant said some of the flaws are rated
critical and could allow attackers to access and run unauthorised commands on
users' computers. The company has issued patches,
available on its website, to fix the flaws (leech this fix for
Internet Explorer 6.0).
- Trillian, v0.73 vulnerable - Hennessy has published a
proof-of-concept showing the latest version of
Trillian, v0.73, is vulnerable to a buffer-overflow attack that will allow
individuals with malicious intent to run any program on the computer.
- Apple to unleash Jaguar OS upgrade - Saturday,
the official release date of Mac OS X 10.2, also is the seventh
anniversary of the day that Microsoft presented Windows 95 to the world in the
most extravagant product kickoff in computing history. Apple hopes to make a
little history of its own with software it sees as capable of wooing Windows
users to the Mac.
- Jury sets landmark $136 million award in piracy case - In what the
recording industry called
the largest judgement ever in a U.S. copyright case, a federal jury in Los
Angeles has fined a California CD maker more than $136 million for music
piracy, officials said Friday. The jury handed down its multi-million dollar
verdict against Media Group, a Fremont, California-based CD manufacturer,
Wednesday, requiring it to pay $90,000 for each of more than 1,500 songs it
copied illegally since 1995.
- U.S. Probes Firm In Security Breach - Federal law enforcement
authorities
searched the computers of a San Diego security firm that used the Internet
to access government and military computers without authorization this summer,
officials said yesterday. Investigators from the FBI, the Army and NASA
visited the offices of ForensicTec Solutions Inc. over the weekend and on
Monday, seeking details about how the company gained access to computers at
Fort Hood in Texas and at the Energy Department, NASA and other government
facilities, officials said.
