  • Record floods in middle EU - The floods are among several that have killed about 100 people across Europe and forced tens of thousands to evacuate their homes. Along with Germany and the Czech Republic, flooding has hit communities in Austria, Slovakia, Russia, and Romania.
  • Sony scientist: Robots need culture - A researcher says that the next wave of robots will be able to interact with one another, form their own languages and evolve new kinds of intelligence.
  • New fault could generate giant waves - Such waves, called tsunami, could pose a threat to densely populated coastal cities in southwestern Japan.  Researchers led by Jin-Oh Park of the Japan Marine Science and Technology Center in Yokohama discovered the fault using a seismic reflection profile, developed by measuring vibrations from the surface that are reflected back by deep rock formations.
  • Russia accuses FBI agent of hacking - A G-man who nabbed two Russian hackers in a sting operation is charged by Russia with downloading evidence from a server without authorization.
  • Military computers' data exposed - A security company cracks U.S. military networks, gaining access to tens of thousands of government computers that military officials say hold unclassified data.
  • AMD plans Athlon boost - The chipmaker will introduce, at a minimum, an Athlon XP 2400+ and an Athlon XP 2600+ for desktop PCs toward the end of the month, sources familiar with AMD's plans said. AMD is also evaluating whether to increase the speed of the chip's front-side bus--the pathway used to shuttle data between the processor and PC memory.

For example, there's a service running in the background wich is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones.
