- The Cost of Warez: DrinkorDie - Last week, at age 29, John Sankus Jr.
moved out of his parents' house for the first time. He and his parents drove 150 miles
from their home in suburban Philadelphia to his new
one: a federal penitentiary in Allenwood (free reg.required), Pa. Mr. Sankus, who
entered the minimum-security prison on July 2 to serve a 46-month sentence, is a
soft-spoken, churchgoing computer technician who still has the plush stuffed whales from
his childhood.
- Microsoft sues over piracy - Microsoft announced Thursday that it has filed 17 lawsuits
accusing U.S. companies of distributing illegally copied Microsoft software. The suits,
filed in various U.S. District Court jurisdictions, target small PC retailers and
consultants, with most of the cases concentrated in Florida, California and New Jersey.

- MS SQL Server multiple vulns - First up we have a trio of issues,
all of which have been fixed with a single cumulative patch (download). There are two exploitable buffer overrun vulnerabilities,

the SQL Server service to write to the registry and specify another account, like
LocalSystem, say and have OS-like privies.
- Windows worm rears ugly head - Windows users are being warned to be on the
lookout for a virus disguised as 'copyrighted Microsoft code' and claiming to be a
Windows update. One expert has even warned that the Windows worm, Datom.A, "could
mark an evolution for viruses' modus operandi". The worm may arrive as an email
purporting to be a Microsoft update, but it can also spread through open network shares.
The actual worm itself consists of three components: MSVXD.exe, MSVXD16.dll and
MSVXD32.dll, created using Borland C++.
- Matrox Parhelia 128 MBytes Video Card Review - As compared with the
previous products from Matrox, this is a super-revolution! It even makes no sense to give
specs of the G400/450/550. But as compared with the current solutions from ATI (RADEON
8500) and NVIDIA (GeForce4 Ti) the Parhelia
looks quite modest. Although 16 texture units place this chip on a higher level, our
tests will show that almost no applications can work with the multitexturing mode of
"4 pipelines X 4 texture units".
- Anti-Aliasing Quality Between GF4 Ti & Parhelia Comparsion -
3DCenter.de has posted an Anti-Aliasing quality comparison between a Geforce 4 Ti and the brand

| Comments from Goerge | posted - 12:17 AM CEST - Jul,13 2002 | | I would recomend stearing clear of Optimizer XP 3.3 . I tried, it and it messed up my XP settings, so that when ever I try to save anything to a CD-RW (through Nero's InCD) it tries to do it through the WinXP/roxio system (which I hate)! The program doesn't inculde a roll-back feature, so that you'll have to do that by yourself. | |

I suggest anyone with a via chipset check this out but definitely read the FAQ listed in the downloads section. I personally don;t have a lot of the problems they're talking about on my system but if I did, I'd definitely get this.
