  • U.S. Developing 'Star Wars' Style De-Mining Gun - The United States army will soon conduct trials of a Star Wars-style cannon that will clear surface-laid mines by zapping them with a high-powered laser, New Scientist magazine said Wednesday. Dubbed Zeus, the laser cannon is mounted on the top of a Humvee all-terrain military vehicle and operated from the cab. A low-powered laser will "illuminate" each mine, and the operator will then switch on the main beam which will either explode or evaporate the explosives in the device which can be up to 250 yards away from the vehicle.
  • Nvidia to flex new nForce chipsets - Graphics chip leader Nvidia is expected to announce next week a new generation of nForce, its integrated product that combines graphics and chipset functions.  Nvidia introduced nForce last year, after signing a deal with chipmaker AMD. nForce combines a chipset--which connects an AMD Athlon or Duron processor with other PC components such as memory--with a low-end graphics processor..
  • Studios sue defunct $1 movie site - The movie studio's trade association files a suit in California federal court against Film88.com in an apparent move to stop the site's owners from reappearing online in another incarnation.
  • Warner Bros. plans 'Superman vs. Batman' movie - Warner Bros. announced production plans Tuesday for the warring superhero film "Batman vs. Superman," which would pit the two DC Comics characters in a "battle of the titans," according to director Wolfgang Petersen.
  • Microsoft to ship smart-phone software 'any day now' - After repeated delays, Microsoft is finally ready to ship its Windows Powered Smartphone 2002 software, formerly code-named Stinger, in the coming weeks but mobile phones based on the software may not appear for up to six months after its release, a company executive said here Tuesday.
  • VIA Announces P4PB 400 Mainboard - VIA Technologies announced the VIA P4PB 400 Mainboard, the world's first mainboard to feature the VIA Apollo P4X400 chipset. The VIA P4PB 400's performance features are impressive and include AGP 8X, providing 2100MB/sec of graphics bandwidth, double the speed of today's standard platforms. DDR400/333 RAM enables the new Intel Pentium 4 processors with 533MHz FSB to perform to its full capacity by supplying a 3200MB/sec of fast double data rate memory transfer rates.
  • Intel 2.8GHz Pentium 4 to Ship Early - Intel Corp. is pushing up the release of a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 to this summer in hopes of boosting sagging sales of its flagship PC processor, sources close to the company say.
  • gBOX Review - LittleWhiteDog let us know that he just finished putting paw prints all over the new gBOX from AMS Electronics. The gBOX is an aluminum barebones mini-pc (9.5" x 8.3" x 12") built around the P4M266 chipset featuring integrated video, sound, USB 2.0 and an ATA133 controller. For testing purposes, a 2Ghz P4 Northwood processor was used along with an eVGA GeForce 4 Ti4600 card and an Audigy board.
  • ECS AG400 Review - VR-Zone has done up a review on the new ECS AG400 card based on the SiS Xabre 400 GPU. SiS Xabre 400 supports AGP 8X and DirectX 8.1 therefore it will make it a worthy competitor to the GF4 MX440 in terms of price and performance and even to the GF3 Ti200. The cool thing about ECS AG400 is that it offers 3DVR connector that allow 3D Glasses to be used to obtain 3D Effects during gaming. By turning on the Transparent mode offer as a feature by the Xabre 3DWizard tool, in games such as Quake 3 or Counterstrike, the walls are transparent therefore it is great news for Cheaters but bad for Gamers.
  • HW Reviews Round-up - ABIT GF4 Ti4200 128MB / MSI GeForce4 Ti 4200 / Plextor PleXCombo 20/10/4012A / Enermax Fan UC-8FAB, Hoodman H300 LCD Hood / Cobalt3 Pyramid I Temperature Controlled Fan Silencer / Watercooling The GF4 (part#2) / Samsung 181B LCD.
  • Modding Your Mouse - No, this is not an article about cooling. This is something little that you can do to make your mouse's life a bit better. Everybody wants to look good, your mouse too.
  • Understanding CPU Caching and Performance - In order to really understand the role of caching in system design, it helps to think of the CPU and memory subsystem as operating on a consumer-producer (or client-server) model: the CPU consumes information provided to it by the hard disks and RAM, which act as producers. Driven by innovations in process technology and processor design, CPUs have increased their ability to consume at a significantly higher rate than the memory subsystem has increased its ability to produce...

Re: Gamers invade Army Web site I've got mixed feelings about the military producing this game as a recruiting tool. But wth..it's not like you're forced to sign up before you get it ;) Still, this is quite a coup for an organization that at one time people HATED with a passion. The other services will be hard pressed to come up with their own game now. Batman vs Superman? Bah..I read the comic already a long time ago...I know how it ends =/
