  • How to Build a Computerized Android Robot Head for $600.00. - It is possible to build a computer-driven, life-size, android robot head for cost of materials of about $600.00. The android head will have two color video-camera eyes with the video going both into a window on the PC and into an image processing Java application. The robot will have six servo motors controlling: (1) base of the head spins, (2,3) each eye moves left/right, (4) both eyes move up/down, (5,6) each eye-lid opens/closes. All servo motors are controlled via a Java application. The user supplies the computer (PC). The details of how to construct such a head follows, based on the authors creation of Robot Maxamilian, R. Max for short.
  • AMD's Hammer chips get Microsoft nod - The chipmaker will collaborate with the software giant to tune Windows to run on AMD's upcoming family of Hammer chips.
  • AMD Announces Opteron - AMD today announced that it has selected "AMD Opteron" as the brand for its 8th-generation enterprise class processor for servers and workstations, formerly code-named "SledgeHammer."
    The AMD Opteron processor is based on AMD's 8th-generation processor core, which will represent the landmark introduction of the industry's first x86-64 technology.
  • Corsair Announces 512MB XMS3000 & XMS3200 Modules - Corsair Memory has announced that it is now offering two new 512 megabyte modules tailored specifically for overclocking applications. The first part, Corsair part number CMX512-3200, is guaranteed to operate at 400 MHz. The second part, part number CMX512-3000C2, is guaranteed to operate at 370 MHz, but with a column access strobe latency ("CAS latency") of only two clock cycles.
  • PS2 to pour into new smartphones - The P800 has a full Web browser, in full color, and fast graphics. It has SSL, HTML and everything, so you can get all the applications you have on the Web.
  • DivX 5.01 for Mac/Linux - An alpha version of the DivX 5.0 decoder is available for Mac OS. A version of DivX 5.0.1 with a decoder and encoder is available for Linux.
