Star Trek: Starfleet Command III Q&A - interview
(hx) 10:15 AM CEST - Apr,05 2002
HomeLAN chats briefly with Taldren's Erik Bethke as he talks about their upcoming space strategy sequel Star Trek: Starfleet Command III. Here is a snip:
HomeLAN: The SFC series is well known for its highly deep gameplay details in terms of its micromanagement of ship systems. The press release indicates that there will be an effort to simplify this aspect of the gameplay. How do you intend to handle this and still make the game enjoyable for long-time SFC players?
Erik Bethke: The key ingredient of SFC is its tactical depth. This is all about the grand naval tradition, using all of your ship and crew to best your enemy under any circumstances. Starfleet Command will always adhere to this naval tradition and never become a star fighter or fast action game. We will bring this tactical depth to the Next Generation timeline. What is important is for people to realize that the user-interface of the Starfleet Command series to date, while not bad, could stand some objective refinement. In other words our mission is to provide the same or greater tactical depth while cleaning up our user-interface at the same time.
