- 7 Years of Graphics - This article should
really be called "7 Years of 3D Graphics" because 3D acceleration seemed a
suitable starting point. For this reason I decided to chart the endeavors of those
companies that have produced 3D graphical processors. Some of these have also produced
their own boards, but to cover all of the board manufactures would be too great an
undertaking. For this reason most of the images in this article refer to the chip used and
not the board name.
- Verizon Sets Wireless Data Price Plans - Targeted primarily for
the enterprise market, the rate plans start
at US$35 per month for 10 MB -- the equivalent of thousands of e-mails or hundreds of
Web pages -- and increase to $55 per month for 20 MB, with fees available for up to 150 MB
of data, Verizon Wireless said. Business customers will pay the set amount, regardless of
download times.
- AMD Athlon XP 2100+ Processor Review - Since we have reviewed
the 1800+, 1900+ and 2000+ previously, the Athlon XPT
2100+ did not shock us with its grocery list of features/ specs. In recent days,
however, there is one specification listed that has warranted much attention, and that is
the use of the 0.18-micron manufacturing process. Intel has already made the leap to
0.13-micorn, and AMD will soon be following close behind with the AthlonXP 2200+.
- 100GB WD 1000JB 7200 rpm Special Edition Review - Until
recently, if you wanted the fastest EIDE drive on the market, IBM's Deskstar 60GXP series
were the drives to get. Not content with their Caviar series of EIDE drives taking second
place, Western Digital decided to take the speed crown by introducing the first ever EIDE
drive to feature an 8 megabyte buffer, the 100 gigabyte WD
1000JB Special Edition. It is an enhanced version of their regular Caviar series
1000BB. The JB model features the 8MB buffer, up from 2MB on the standard drive.
- SiS645DX Chipset Performance Review - SiS645DX chipset
is one of the highlight by SiS at CeBIT where this chipset will provide 533Mhz support for
Pentium 4 and of course DDR333 support as well. VR-Zone has a chance to take a look at the
SIS645DX reference board from SiS and we have evaluated its performance under DDR266,
DDR333 and even DDR400 modes. More interestingly, we have tested out the 533Mhz FSB
support on this chipset by using a 533Mhz P4 2.4Ghz (18x133) processor.
- Shuttle AK35GTR KT266A Motherboard Review - Coupled with a VIA
KT266A Northbridge chipset, and the integration of the Highpoint ATA133 RAID controller, the AK35GTR is an outstanding performer in every aspect. Supporting
upto 4GB of DDR memory and 6-channel onboard surround sound, no wonder why the AK35GTR is
such great value!
- GF4 MX Reviews - if you plan to buy GeForce 4 MX,
check out these reviews at ExtremeTech
(Visiontek Xtasy GeForce4 MX440), OCTools (Leadtek Winfast A170 DDR-T), AthlonXP (PNY
GeForce4 MX 440), Overclockers New Zealand (GF4 MX 440 comparison), VR-Zone (Triplex Millennium Silver GeForce4 Preview).
- Security Operations Guide for Windows 2000 Server - This guide delivers procedures and best practices for system
administrators to lock down their Windows 2000-based servers and maintain secure
operations once they're up and running. Through effective use of Group Policy, proper
patch management, and auditing and intrusion detection tactics, this guide provides
administrators with the key information to manage risk of attack from avoidable malicious
code (such as viruses and Trojan horses), unauthorized access, and data theft.
- MSXML 4 SP1 - MSXML 4.0 SP1 offers a number of new features and improvements over
the MSXML 3.0, including support for the XML Schema language and substantially faster
parser and XSLT engine. MSXML 4.0 SP1 is a complete replacement for MSXML 4.0 RTM and
provides a number of bug fixes.
- Weekly Antivirus Feed - Leech new virus definition data for Norton Antivirus 4.0/v5.0/2001, McAfee Dat, McAfee SuperDat, Kaspersky Antivirus (AVP).
- BearShare v2.5.0 - BearShare
is designed to let you share files with everyone on the Internet, and download files that
other people are sharing. The program works with all types of files, and lets you search
for files that contain specific words or phrases.
- Seismovision v2.00 - Seismovision is a
versatile demo player for Quake 1, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament,
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The AVA (Auto-Version
Adaptation) 'technology' makes Seismovision the best demo player for Quake 3 Arena,
Half-Life (Counter-Strike) Star Trek Voyager Elite Force and Return to Castle Wolfenstein
players and its `Demodiversity' makes it a must for every professional gamer.
- WinStyles 1.0 - WinStyles does not in itself skin or theme your desktop. Instead, it
tells Windows + third party applications what they need to do to apply an XPTheme. To get
the best experience, here are the applications you will want to have on your system.
WinStyles gives you control over which applications are actually used. These are the best
of the best out there. More will be added as we learn how to support them.

- NVMax 4.01.00 LE (last edition) - NVmax is due to terminate at 25th March
2002, after which NVmax will be removed from nvmax.com and will not be supported. Source
code will be released on 23th March 2002 as complete unrestricted freeware. The decision
to end NVmax is final and will not be reversed. This decision was made by the author in
order to divert time into a future project. Sadly, all good things come to an end.
