  • Athlon XP 2100+ - AMD will unveil its Athlon XP 2100+ processor at CeBit. The 1.73GHz chip outperforms Intel's 2.2GHz Pentium 4 on several benchmarks, the company claims.
  • Intel Releases new Xeon MP - The three versions of the Xeon MP (for “multiprocessor”), designed for servers using four or more processors, clock at 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GHz, and 1.6 GHz. The chips feature three levels of integrated cache memory, adding as much as 1MB of Level 3 cache to the already existing 8KB of Level 1 and 256KB of Level 2 cache.
    The 1.4-GHz and 1.5-GHz Xeon MP processors each have 512KB of Level 3 cache. The 1.4-GHz Xeon MP is priced at $1177, and the 1.5-GHz chip at $1980, in 1000-unit quantities. The 1.6-GHz Xeon MP has 1MB of Level 3 cache and is priced at $3692 in 1000-unit.
  • Jac virus targets Linux - The Jac virus follows the recent trend of infrequent Linux infecting malware, as the first to hit the platform in three months. Jac infects the Linux binary files in the Linux Executable and Linking Format that exist in the same directory as the virus.
  • Teen Hacker's Offer To Help Leads To Felony Charges - A Kansas teenager who the FBI says hacked a California city's Web site and then offered to secure it was charged Thursday with 11 felony counts of computer crime. Matthew T. Kroeker, 18, allegedly used the nickname "Artech" while defacing more than 50 Web sites in 2000.
  • Backdoor Worm Disguised As Microsoft Security Bulletin - The "W32/Gibe" worm masquerades as an "Internet Security Update" from Microsoft, according to the Computer Emergency Response Team at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. While the worm is largely non-destructive, the attached file "q216309.exe" when executed installs a backdoor on the infected system that could give intruders near total control over the victim's computer, CERT said.
  • Microsoft plans new Filesystem -   CEO Steve Ballmer says, "We want to evolve our storage system." Allchin says the OFS unified storage concept is again in development and will be a major part of Longhorn, the code name for the next version of Windows.

  • AMD Athlon XP 2100+ Review - VIAHardware have posted  a review of the latest and posibly last of the Green Palomino core Athlon XP running at 1.7GHz.
  • Epox 4DBA2+ Review - All advanced CPU settings can be done in BIOS: multiplier, FSB selection, AGP/PCI ratio, CPU voltage, AGP voltage. The multiplier can be modified between 10x and 19x, the FSB can be increased up to 200Mhz in 1Mhz increments, the AGP/PCI clock can be selected between Auto, (AGP - PCI * 2/3, PCI - FSB/3), and (AGP - 66Mhz, PCI - 33Mhz) and the memory frequency can be adjusted between Auto, FSB and FSB * 4/3.

  • Iwill XP333 Vcore and IO mod - Before we get started I must make it VERY clear to you that these mods WILL void your warranty and can very easily kill pretty much every piece in your computer. If your IO voltage is too high it can easily burn up anything in your PCI and AGP bus which includes your IDE devices. Pushing your CPU voltage up too high can very easily burn up your CPU. Pushing your RAM voltage too high can of course kill your RAM. Also 1 slip with your soldering iron can also kill anything that it touches.
