  • Computer spy methods found in LED lights - Scientists have discovered a way to remotely eavesdrop on computer data by monitoring optical signals from the little flashing lights on everything from monitors to modems and routers.
  • Online virus generator will return - The creator of the now infamous online virus generator, shut down earlier this week after vnunet.com's exposé, has vowed to bring the site back. The 15 year-old Romanian coder, who only identifies himself as Smecher Piratul, which translates as 'sly pirate', told vnunet.com that "the site will be resurrected for sure somewhere else".
  • Holes found in Sony's online game plan - Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) executives announced that a PS2 network adapter, with an Ethernet port for broadband Internet and a modem for dial-up access, will go on sale in August, along with games from Sony and third-party publishers that support online play. The network adapter will work with any ISP (Internet service provider), and Sony's installation CD will include software for automatically setting up customers of popular online services such as America Online and EarthLink, SCEA President Kaz Hirai said in a conference call.
  • No Pain, No Game - Have you ever had a hankering to play a computer game that allows you to inflict real pain on your opponent? Ever wondered how it would feel to shock, burn and lash your opponent into submission? Well, wonder no more. Two German designers have addressed this yawning gap in the gaming industry with a fiendish invention called, appropriately enough, the Painstation.. The concept is simple. Two players eyeball each other over a table console. The left-hand is positioned on a sensor field -- otherwise know as a PEU, or Pain Execution Unit. When both players have made this electric contact, the game, and the real fun, commences.
  • Online population nears half billion mark - The company said some 498 million people could surf the web from home by the end of 2001, a jump of 5.1 percent from the figure in July-September.
  • Teen Anarchist Back Online Despite FBI & Big ISPs - Sherman Austin has not been charged with breaking any laws, but that hasn't stopped two of the biggest Internet service providers (ISPs) from running the California teenager off their property for his anarchist views. Last month, after incarcerating Austin, 18, for more than a week, federal prosecutors decided not to file charges against Austin for publishing bomb-making information at his site Raisethefist.com and hacking into several sites to post revolutionary calls to arms.
  • Removable dreams come true - As predicted on the news pages this week, eight firms, among them some of the largest names in Japan's electronics industry, have formed a consortium to promote and license a new removable hard disk system. Prototype systems look to give modular, scalable hard drive capacity at the consumer and small office home office (SoHo) level. One version of the vision looks very similar to a small, cutesy Raid array system (pictured).
  • Raytown Corporation Anti-Keylogger 1.12 - Fight back! New software promises to disable the spyware that monitors keyboard strokes.
  • Compex WP11 - WLU11 Wireless Network Review - Both of these products are based on the 802.11b wireless networking standard, the most popular standard for wireless LANs. These products are designed for home users, or small office networks - where great transfer speeds are not required. A maximum theoretical throughput of 11Mbps (claimed effective throughput is 7.5Mbps) will not be fast enough for running large applications over a network, but will be enough for tasks such as network gaming, file sharing, internet sharing etc.
  • Abit BD7 Raid I845 DDR Review - BD7 Raid's overclocking ability is amazing! I was able to push our good old P4 1600Mhz to 1944 Mhz stable around 121 FSB.

  • Eizo FlexScan F931 21'' Monitor Review - The Eizo Flexscan F931 with it's 31.0kg weight is certainly one of the bigger if not one of the biggest competitors in the CRT monitor market but in our opinion is one of the most desirable one's because of it's excellent technological features like the capability to display a resolution of 1600 dots x 1200 lines flicker-free at 104 Hz which is most ergonomic and eye pleasing or the ability to connect two PC's to the monitor. If you now feel like your old 17'' CRT monitor has grown of ages maybe it's time to head for a bigger one.
  • Canon Photo Printers: S900 and S9000 Review - The start of a new year seems to have given Canon the inspiration to pull out all the stops in its inkjet printer offerings.
