- Kernel flaw leaves Linux vulnerable - A security vulnerability
discovered in the Linux kernel earlier this week leaves the OS vulnerable to communication
from IP addresses previously blocked by firewalls. The flaw affects kernel versions 2.4.14
to 2.4.18-pre9 and, more specifically, a component of the Netfilter firewall software,
which was recently included in the kernel. The vulnerability affects users of IRC
(Internet Relay Chat). Because the IRC program configures its firewall setting too
broadly, it allows through packets from IP addresses that may have been blocked by
Netfilter.

more clueless species of script kiddie. According to antivirus firm Sybari, the Britney
virus is nothing more than the Alyssa Milano virus, but with a different name.
- Lawmakers Urge Russians To Beef Up Piracy Enforcement - A group

lawmakers used the pirated software to illustrate their concerns to Russian authorities,
Goodlatte said.

southern hemisphere of Mars comes from three different instruments in the Gamma-Ray
Spectrometer (GRS) instrument suite on board the 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft: the Gamma

Each of these instruments has detected the signal expected from a large amount of ice in
the surface, or regolith, of Mars.
- Picture's fuzzy for DVD - The DVD Forum has voted to approve a
low-bit-rate compression format and red-laser technology for high-definition DVDs, a
distinctly different approach from the blue-laser-based format approved by nine companies
just last week. Some saw no contradiction in pursuing both blue-laser and low-bit-rate
approaches. "I don't think it's confusing. It's only natural" to pursue both
paths, said Jan Oosterveld (left) of Philips Electronics' group management committee.

have been made to make sure all the information in this guide (and others as well) are 100% accurate, they could still
be wrong for any number of reasons. Some manufacturers may implement certain BIOS options
