Civ VII Cartridge Used to Hack Switch 2; 2K Reportedly Pulls Physical Copies - briefly
(hx) 09:14 AM CET - Nov,08 2026
A new exp0loit called CivSwitch lets users run code on the Nintendo Switch 2 by using a physical Switch 1 cartridge of Civilization VII.

Developer Gezine released the tool on GitHub. It abuses an unpatched flaw in the game’s multiplayer chat (version 1.0.0 only) to inject JavaScript via a USB device such as a Raspberry Pi Pico.

Once active, it gives userland access for homebrew apps, mods, and save editing. It does not currently allow pirated Switch 2 games because there is no kernel access or custom firmware.

The exploit works on Switch 2 firmware up to 23.0.1 and also on original Switch consoles. Digital copies and the code-in-box edition are not affected.

Buyers report that Amazon has cancelled orders for the physical cartridge, citing a 2K mandate and “technical and security-related requirements.” 2K has not issued an official statement. Some customers were offered the digital code-in-box version instead.

The situation remains fluid. Nintendo and 2K have not publicly confirmed any formal recall.
