$18 Dell Wyse 3040 Tiny PC Tested as a 2026 Desktop - tech|
| (hx) 10:09 AM CET - Nov,06 2026 | A YouTube review tests a Dell Wyse 3040 Tiny PC bought for $18 to see if it can still work as a desktop in 2026.
The palm-sized, fanless unit has a quad-core Intel Atom x5-Z8350, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, and it was originally built as a thin client for remote servers.
Spec Tech installed Windows 10 IoT LTSC, Linux Mint XFCE, and antiX Linux and checked everyday tasks, YouTube playback, and Minecraft Java Edition.
Windows used about 0.6GB of RAM but struggled with choppy 480p video and crashed Minecraft.
Linux Mint XFCE used roughly 800MB of RAM, handled 480p YouTube more smoothly, and ran Minecraft at 20–40 FPS.
antiX used the least RAM at around 200MB but showed poor YouTube buffering and lower Minecraft frame rates.
The review concludes the weak 1.44 GHz processor and tight memory make it unsuitable as a regular computer, though lightweight Linux can keep it usable for basic tasks.
