Windows 11 26H2 Uses Far Less RAM Than 25H2 on 8GB Laptops - tech|
| (hx) 04:02 PM CET - Nov,05 2026 |
Tests on an 8GB laptop show Windows 11 26H2 using less memory than an older 25H2 build both after boot and under heavy stress.
After a fresh boot with no extra apps, 26H2 used 4.1GB of RAM while the older 25H2 build used 5.3GB.
Under a heavy workload with many browser tabs and apps open, committed memory hit 10.4GB on 26H2 versus 15.2GB on 25H2.
The comparison ran on the same Acer Swift Air 14 with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM, starting from an early 25H2 build and then updating to 26H2.
These results come from Windows Central testing reported by Neowin and show clearer gains on memory-constrained systems.
Microsoft has said it is optimizing Windows 11 for 8GB PCs, and these numbers match the direction of those claims.
