ASUS TUF RTX 4090 Hotspot Drops 32°C After PTM7950 and Putty Swap - tech|
| (hx) 11:00 PM CET - Nov,04 2026 | An ASUS TUF RTX 4090 owner replaced the factory thermal paste with Honeywell PTM7950 phase-change material and the stock pads with Thermal Grizzly TG Putty Pro.
Under stock clocks in 3DMark Port Royal, the hotspot temperature fell from 103.1°C to 71.3°C. The GPU core cooled to 62.5°C and memory to 66.0°C.
In undervolted Cyberpunk 2077 tests, the hotspot dropped from 84.1°C to 59.5°C while the card held a steady 94 FPS. These are user-reported results from a single owner on an Intel Core i9-10850K system at 5120x2160 resolution.
The mod shows the strong thermal gains typical of PTM7950 on high-power GPUs that suffer from thermal paste pump-out.
