SteamOS Now Runs on Apple Silicon Macs via FX Steam Launcher - briefly|
| (hx) 10:19 PM CET - Nov,03 2026 | Mac users can now run Valve's SteamOS and play Windows PC games on Apple Silicon Macs thanks to FX Steam Launcher, an independent open-source project.
The tool runs Valve’s official ARM64 SteamOS image (built for the Steam Frame) inside a lightweight virtual machine on macOS 15 or newer. It uses Apple’s Hypervisor framework and supports controller input while keeping macOS available.
Early tests by YouTuber ETA Prime on an M4 Max MacBook Pro showed solid results. The Witcher 3 ran above 70 FPS at 1080p on high settings, though with some tree rendering bugs. Left 4 Dead 2 hit over 140 FPS, Fallout 4 locked at 60 FPS at 1080p on medium, and Red Dead Redemption stayed above 70 FPS at 1080p.
The project is still in active development and is not endorsed by Valve or Apple. Some games fail to launch due to anti-cheat or graphics limitations, and results can vary by Mac model and settings. The launcher is available on GitHub as steamac.
