Sam Altman: Your PC's RAM Is "Quite Terrible" Waste* - briefly
(hx) 12:20 AM CET - Oct,31 2026
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says having RAM in personal computers is a poor use of the world's limited DRAM supply.

In an interview on the Cheeky Pint podcast with John Collison, he called it "quite terrible" that the scarce memory sits in people's machines and gets used only about 5% of the time.

He argues that data centers provide much better utilization for AI workloads during the current shortage.

The comments arrive as AI data center demand has driven up DRAM prices and limited supply for consumers and gamers.

OpenAI has itself signed major deals to lock in large volumes of future memory from makers like Samsung and SK Hynix.

The remarks spotlight the clash between local PC computing and cloud AI needs amid the crunch.
