Binance Hit by Record $6.3B Crypto Heist Linked to North Korean Hackers - tech
(hx) 11:02 AM CET - Oct,30 2026
Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, lost about $6.3 billion in a massive security breach on October 29, 2026. Attackers drained hot wallets across ten blockchains in roughly 20 minutes starting around 20:05 UTC.

Blockchain firm TRM Labs called it the biggest crypto theft ever—roughly four times larger than the 2025 Bybit hack—and attributes it with high confidence to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group. Binance says user funds are safe and will cover all losses from its SAFU fund and company money.

The company points to a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop as the likely entry point that allowed unauthorized withdrawal transactions, with no private keys leaked. About $3 billion has been frozen by stablecoin issuers such as Tether and Circle plus network partners. Withdrawals remain suspended while the investigation continues.
