Apple Now Demands Face Scan to Prove You're Adult on iPhone - briefly|
| (hx) 10:30 AM CET - Oct,29 2026 |
Apple has added a selfie-based age check in iOS 27.2 for users in the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, and Singapore. An age-estimation model running both on the device and in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute analyzes the face scan to confirm the user is 18 or older.
The prompt can appear when someone tries to download or buy an 18+ app, update the software, change certain safety settings, or create a new Apple Account.
Apple says the selfie is not accessible to anyone, including the company, and is deleted immediately after the age is confirmed. Users can still use a credit card or government ID instead in regions where the selfie option is not available. The feature is tied to local age-assurance rules in those countries.
Once confirmed, the check does not need to be repeated.
