Four WD Black SSDs Fail Together After Warranty Expires - tech|
| (hx) 10:14 AM CET - Oct,27 2026 |
A storage setup using four WD Black SN850 1TB NVMe drives in a ZFS pool suddenly degraded. All four drives reported SMART errors even though they had used only about 4 percent of their rated 600TB write endurance.
The drives sat on an ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 carrier with heatsinks and active cooling, and the user said they ran cool. TRIM was enabled on the pool. The warranty had expired six days earlier.
The owner sent SanDisk the SMART logs and diagnostic output. SanDisk made an exception and approved RMA replacements for all four drives. The case is one user’s experience. No wider product recall has been confirmed.
